Bilateral discussions focus on East-West trade and logistics infrastructure
DP World Group Chairman and CEO, Sultan Ahmed Bin Sulayem has met with the President of Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko, to discuss potential areas of future cooperation.
During the meeting in Belarus, Mr Bin Sulayem suggested avenues for trade and logistics growth between the two countries. DP World has maintained a strong focus on enabling global economic and social progress through a varied portfolio of marine and inland trade infrastructure and services, while providing customers and partners with smart trade solutions.
President Lukashenko outlined how Belarus is ready to implement joint logistics projects and highlighted its role as a transit hub for trade to markets both east and west and to the north and south. He welcomed the expertise and capabilities of DP World and the UAE that could complement the ideas for economic development in the country. The relationships of both countries could help develop collaboration in the future leading to new projects and jobs.
The global trade and logistics enabler has long-term partnerships with governments around the world, including an advisory role to the Government of Kazakhstan. It is also focusing on the New Silk Route to realise faster, safer and more cost effective trade routes between Asia and Europe.
DP World and the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF) announced earlier this year the launch of a new joint venture company targeting ports, transportation and logistics infrastructure in Russia. As a neighbouring nation, Belarus could benefit from enhanced trade infrastructure in the region to develop a role as an industrial and logistics hub on the Europe to Asia land route. Transit cargo is growing and becoming a major contributor to the economy given its location mid-way between key European cities and Moscow.

Trade between Dubai and Belarus totalled AED 80 million in 2015, with imports of AED 66 million, exports of AED 6 million and re-exports of AED 8 million.
