Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of Dubai Executive Council His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, inaugurated today, the MENA Transport Congress & Exhibition 2016, organized by Road and Transport Authority (RTA) and International Association of Public Transport (UITP). Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, the president of the Department of Civil Aviation, CEO and chairman of The Emirates Group also attended the event which attracted 600 delegates from 29 countries.
Keynote speech of the event was delivered by Dr Thani Al Zeyoudi, Cabinet Member, Minister of Climate Change and Environment, who highlighted the importance of public transportation, namely road transport, as a key for economic and social development in the UAE. He said that people mobility using public transportation in Dubai grew from 6% in 2006 to 15% in 2015. A percentage that is set to reach 30% by 2030.
Sheikh Hamdan also inaugurated trail test of the first smart driverless car in the UAE. The car, developed by Easy Mile and can move 10 passengers with a speed limit is 20 km per hour.
