Dubai Customs Consultative Council reflects on business groups role in Dubai Plan 2021 |

“In light with this vision, Dubai Customs takes its public–private partnerships very seriously. Our shared decision-making approach enables us to make better decisions which benefit us all. And for this reason, we have established the Dubai Customs Consultative Council,” added HE Bin Sulayem at the inaugural meeting of Dubai Customs Consultative Council for 2016. The meeting brought together DC’s leadership team and Council members representatives of the business community in Dubai. “Our clients’ trust and support have been major factors in our successful track record, which received international commendation from the World Customs Organisation. We are proud to say that our doors are, and always will be, open to delegates from all sectors. “2016 will bring about a world of innovations and initiatives to further streamline trade flow across Customs points in Dubai, building on such pioneering projects launched in 2015 as the Virtual Freight and Logistics Corridor and Authorized Economic Operator,” said Bin Sulayem. Commenting on the first gathering of the Dubai Customs Consultative Council in this year, His Excellency Ahmed Mahboob Musabih, Director of Dubai Customs, said: “Once again we listened and responded to important feedback from our partners. Having effective two-way communication with our over-than-184,000 registered clients is a leverage in our services’ development drive.” H.E. Musabih thanked members of the Council for committing to their role as representatives of business sectors and for bringing forward constructive thoughts and highlighting setbacks their sectors might be facing. Four presentations delivered by business group representatives were the highlight of the meeting, tackling their role in realizing the objectives of Dubai Plan 2021. The President of the National Association of Freight & Logistics (NAFL) Ms Nadia Abdul Aziz delivered a presentation on “Innovation Quality & Customer Service”, where she reflected on NAFL’s own experience in this area. She elaborated on how the Association updated its strategy to adhere to Dubai Plan 2021 objectives, and launched innovative initiatives that helped boost client satisfaction. In his presentation “Innovation in Supply Chain”, Ravi S Kuchimanchi, President of the Executive Committee, Supply Chain & Logistics Group, stressed on the importance of an innovation drive that is based on understanding customers’ current needs and predicting their future needs. Dubai Computer Group General Secretary Dharmendra Sawlani shed light on the current status of IT trade in Dubai, which – he said – has a bright outlook as Dubai is an acknowledged re-export hub of electronics in the region. The Treasurer of Dubai Gold and Jewellery Group K.P. Abdul Salam spoke about the growth in gold and jewellery trade in Dubai, as it is one of Dubai’s largest five non-oil trading sectors. As they were wrapping up the meeting, heads of business groups members of the Dubai Customs Consultative Council praised efforts exerted by the department to ensure clients take part in making decisions that influence their operations. |
