Dewa CEO Mohammed Al Tayer’s Quote on National Environment Day

We give priority to defeating environmental issues and playing a leading role in the movement to raise awareness among communities about the rational use of our natural resources.

We integrate the idea of environmental preservation into all of our operations and strategies. DEWA exerts every effort possible to achieve the sustainability of our natural resources, to ensure a healthy, bright future for generations to come.

Today, on National Environment Day, we renew our commitment to achieving the ‘UAE Vision 2021,’ and the ‘Dubai Plan 2021’ to transform Dubai into a sustainable city capable of providing a clean, healthy, and sustainable environment.

We assure our adherence to international environmental regulations by making use of the latest green technologies. DEWA is working to achieve its strategic sustainable environmental goals and monitors, and evaluates strategic environmental programmes and sustainability programmes to make continuous progress. DEWA is committed to adopting the highest standards in relation to air emissions, solid and liquid waste, and comprehensive marine and land protection programmes. This will result in the doubling-up of investments and decrease environmental violations to 0, achieving DEWA’s vision of becoming a sustainable innovative world-class utility, by applying the highest international standards of health, safety and environment.

DEWA contributes to the Emirate’s sustainability by implementing large-scale energy projects, developing renewable and clean energy sources, enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of energy and water networks, launching awareness initiatives and programmes to promote public awareness on the importance of the sensible use of natural resources, and instilling a culture of rationalisation in society. This in turn, supports Dubai’s strategy to reduce the carbon footprint of the Emirate and the UAE, contributing to mitigating the effects of global warming. DEWA sponsors conferences, events and national activities that focus on the environment and highlight innovative solutions in green development.

DEWA’s continuous efforts to achieve its strategic sustainability goals which include full adherence to international environmental standards, ongoing implementation of renewable energy projects, and providing support to research and development, and innovation, have contributed to DEWA’s long list of awards and achievements. DEWA is the first organisation in the Middle East and North Africa, one of only seven worldwide, to receive the Globe of Honour for Environment for the 4th consecutive year in a row, as well as the Sword of Honour for Health and Safety from the British Safety Council.

DEWA’s ongoing efforts have also contributed to the achievement of receiving the Five Star Environmental Audit from the British Safety Council for four consecutive years in a row, scoring full marks between 2012 and 2015.
