Celebrating the International Customs Day concurs with the 1st Dubai Customs Week, which is running from January 24 to 28, 2016, under the motto “Dubai Customs.. A World of Digital Innovations”. The audience watched a short film on the inception and role of the WCO.

H.E. Ahmed Mahboob Musabih, Director of Dubai Customs, said that the International Customs Day 2016 presents the opportunity to Customs administrations around the world to showcase and further promote their use of Information and Communication Technologies.

In his speech, Musabih spoke about the history of the World Customs Organization (WCO), which was established in 1952 as an independent intergovernmental body whose mission is to enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of Customs administrations.

“Today, the WCO represents 180 Customs administrations across the globe that collectively process approximately 98% of world trade. As the global centre of Customs expertise, the WCO is the only international organization with competence in Customs matters. The UAE has become a member of the WCO in 1973,” Musabih said.

The WCO offers support and guidance to Customs administrations worldwide to ensure optimal compliance with trade laws. It highly regards Dubai Customs for its salient contribution to upgrading Customs processes globally, added the Director of Dubai Customs.
