DEWA awards AED 260 million contract for additional 46km water transmission network for Dubai

"DEWA is always seeking to raise its production and operational capacity and increase water flow to meet the increasing growth of the demand for water all over Dubai at all times to contribute to driving sustainable development and providing the different requirements to achieve our plans," said HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD and CEO of DEWA.

"The project includes laying Glass Reinforced Epoxy (GRE) water pipes with different diameters between Dubai Academic City Road and Dubai Bypass Road and the Emirates Road, and from the Emirates Road along Jebel Ali-Al Hebab reaching Al Qudra Road. Also, a main pipeline will be extended from Al Lussaily reservoir to the intersection of Al-Ain Road and Jebel Ali-Al Hebab, in addition to other pipelines from Mushrif Station to Al Warqa’a, and along Al Khaleej Road. This project will provide water through gravity in emergencies to various areas, and to provide Al Reem Area, and the future projects on both sides of Al Qudra Road, and other developments with water," added Al Tayer.

"The project will improve water flow to Al Warqa’a and the Palm Deira to ensure an uninterrupted water supply and the network’s water pressure network.

This will support both existing and future projects to add more flexibility to the transmission network. The project combines remote control and supervision systems to control the main water transmission network effectively around the clock through automatic valves that are remotely-controlled from the control centre. This will lead to isolating failures and breakdowns in the shortest possible time, reducing water loss from the network. The project includes two sites for the connection between the main transmission pipelines along Jebel Ali Road to Hebab and the Dubai-Hatta Road to provide water to Al Nakhli reservoir.”

"The project is expected to take 28 months to complete and will cost AED 260 million,” concluded Al Tayer.
