RTA clinches RoSPA Occupational Health & Safety international award

Abdullah Yousef Al Ali, CEO of RTA’s Public Transport Agency, was happy over this huge achievement and congratulated all directors and staffs of the Agency on this excellent achievement, especially as the award is from a globally reputed entity characterized by transparency and creditability in safety standards worldwide. “The golden award was given in connection with the Road Safety & Security as well as the Security & Safety Standards in the Work Environment. Obtaining this international award is a testament to the AIDA50 initiative for revamping investigation of bus accidents procedures applied by the Agency since 2010. The procedure succeeded in reducing bus accidents by 50% in 28 months to dip as low as 0.48 accident per 100,000 km in 2012. It is noteworthy that the Agency had already bagged RoSPA Silver award back in 2013,” said Al Ali.

“The initiative, which realizes the vision of RTA (Safe & Smooth Transport for All), stems from our commitment to enhance the safety & security of this vital transit mode, which is critically related to the lives of users. It addresses all factors responsible for bus accidents and related parties, takes into consideration individual variations between bus drivers, and analyzes all information and data of accidents to figure out their true causes. We have managed to establish the underlying factors of accidents thanks to this creative procedure that contributed to re-training & qualifying bus drivers to the highest levels of efficiency & performance ever applied across the globe,” added Al Ali.

“Scooping this international award brings forward fresh responsibilities on the Public Transport Agency to maintain this excellence drive, enhance its profile in the industry, and highlight its care & commitment towards improving the health & safety of drivers and employees. The Agency has also got to deliver high-class services to customers in keeping with RTA’s vision of Safe and Smooth Transport for All.

“Clinching this global award reaffirms that health & safety are high priorities of the Agency, which is committed to curbing bus accidents and workplace-related injuries. Due to the importance of bus drivers segment in the community, we have attached considerable attention to drivers to sensitize them about the importance of safe driving for their own safety as well as the safety of riders and road users. We have also educated them about the requisites of safe driving, raising the operational capacity of the Agency, besides directing drivers to abide by traffic rules and exercise caution & vigilance while driving,” explained Al Ali.

RoSPA awards help improve the standards of occupational health & safety standards in various fields, thus they are awarded to organizations concerned with the management of health & safety systems, such as the Public Transport Agency, which had contributed, together with other ambitious organizations, to raising the bar on these standards.

It is noteworthy that RoSPA is a non-profit seeking organization established in 1817. Since 1956, it embarked on managing Occupational Health & Safety Awards program; considered the largest of its type in the UK. The program seeks to highlight the commitment of businesses to prevent accidents, and the onset of occupational diseases across the world. RoSPA award is an epitome of the unwavering commitment to uplift the means of prevention against diseases & accidents within the scope of operations. The judges of the award take into consideration the system of senior management of companies concerned with the Health, Safety, and environment, including practices within the business environment in respect of all staffs and senior management.
