UAE Water Aid participates in WFES 2016

“The UAE Water Aid Foundation plays a leading role in achieving one the objectives of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives Foundation, to combat poverty and disease. This is achieved by finding permanent solutions to water shortage, which is a key challenge that will face the world in the future. The UAE Water Aid Foundation supports global efforts to improve the living conditions of poor and disaster-stricken areas, and achieve the sustainable development of all humanity. The Foundation also supports international efforts to provide clean drinking water, and fight water-related diseases that threaten lives,” said HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA, and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the UAE Water Aid Foundation.

“At the World Future Energy Summit 2016, the UAE Water Aid Foundation is showing its projects in water desalination using clean energy to provide clean water solutions. It also highlights its leading humanitarian projects to provide access to fresh drinking water for 5 million people around the world. The Foundation is also promoting its one million-dollar award, launched by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to find permanent solutions to water shortages around the world by using solar power for water purification and desalination,” added Al Tayer.

“At WFES, the UAE Water Aid Foundation is highlighting its key projects and initiatives to provide clean water to the needy, its studies and research on producing water using solar power, and its contributions to financing and supporting water-technology projects to combat drought. The Foundation also had on display a model of its mobile water desalination station that desalinates, as well as a sample of its solar-powered mobile station that uses photovoltaic solar panels to desalinate water by reverse osmosis (RO) technology, in cooperation with DEWA. It also is showing its research and development projects such as the solar panel powered PVRO unit at the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park with a production capacity of 50 cubic meters a day, and the ability to store power for 7 hours. The project is being implemented in cooperation with DEWA,” said Mohammed Abdulkareem Al Shamsi, Acting Executive Director of the UAE Water Aid Foundation.

The UAE Water Aid Foundation works to provide potable water to the needy, the disadvantaged, and those who are in distress around the world. It contributes to finding permanent and sustainable solutions to water scarcity around the world. This is done using the latest technologies, desalinating water using solar power, and providing new and innovative technological solutions for communities that suffer from scarcity and contamination of drinking water. The Foundation will conduct studies and research to tackle water scarcity, particularly using solar power, to help it achieve its goals. This is done in coordination and partnership with educational, academic, and international organisations. These efforts include 10 projects in cooperation with the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Charity and Humanitarian Establishment to provide potable water in Somalia, Tajikistan, Afghanistan, Ghana, Yemen, and Benin. Around 60,000 people benefit from these projects. The Foundation also provides relief assistance to Yemen in cooperation with the Ministry of Development and International Cooperation.

WFES 2016, hosted by Masdar as part of the Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week, is a major annual global event, where the most brilliant minds meet to exchange ideas and explore the latest updates and challenges related to the future of energy. The UAE Water Aid Foundation is also participating in the Global Water Summit 2016, which is organised to coincide with Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week. It highlights the importance of water sustainability in the region, and focuses on exploring growing investment opportunities for innovative clean energy technologies in the Middle East and North Africa.
