I, Tonya – 22 February

Competitive ice skater Tonya Harding rises through the ranks at the US Figure Skating Championships, but her future is thrown into doubt when her ex-husband intervenes.

A gloriously messy film, I, Tonya reexamines the scandalous rise and fall of Tonya Harding as Margot Robbie turns the notorious character into a woman deserving of public sympathy. Allison Janney’s performance stole the show and won a Golden Globe for Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role.

Shape of Water – 8 March

At a top secret research facility in the 1950s, a lonely janitor forms a unique relationship with an amphibious creature being held in captivity. A masterpiece of storytelling from Guillermo del Toro – who won the Golden Globe for Best Director, this film is far from ordinary and spectacular to watch with an unrivalled musical score which also won the Golden Globe in Best Original score.

Prayer Before Dawn – 29 March

The true story of an English boxer incarcerated in one of Thailand’s most notorious prisons as he fights in Muay Thai tournaments to earn his freedom. Filmed in a real Thai prison, the cast is supplemented by actual inmates in this savage chronicle of Billy Moore’s battle for freedom.

Submergence – 12 April

In a room with no windows on the eastern coast of Africa, an Englishman, James More, is held captive by jihadist fighters. Thousands of miles away in the Greenland Sea, Danielle Flinders prepares to dive in a submersible to the ocean floor. In their confines, they are drawn back to the Christmas of the previous year when a chance encounter on a beach in France led to an intense and enduring romance.

You Were Never Really Here – 10 May

Making the cut as one of the Top 10 films of 2017 in Time magazine and garnering praise from famous fans such as Stephen Colbert who called it “one of the best movies he’s ever seen”, Lady Bird is soft and relatable and well-deserving of the Golden Globe for Best Musical or Comedy Motion Picture. Saoirse Ronan also picked up the Golden Globe for Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy, for her moving portrayal.
