TRA Signs A Gulf Agreement On Information Security |

The Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA), represented by the UAE Computer Emergency Response Team (aeCERT), has signed a number of memorandums of understanding (MoUs) with the computer emergency response teams of the Kingdom of Bahrain, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Uzbekistan, with the aim of identifying areas of cooperation and joint work in the field of information security, activating information exchange mechanism, and setting frameworks for joint action that serve common interests. These agreements are based on the parties' awareness of the need to protect digital environments, enhance cooperative efforts to combat cybersecurity incidents and protect the privacy of Internet users. On these MoUs, H.E. Hamad Obaid Al Mansoori, TRA Director General, said: “In line with our wise leadership directives, we are keen in the UAE to create a safe digital space that allows everyone to work, learn, invest and create. We make all possible efforts to protect the users of this space (institutions and individuals) from all kinds and degrees of psychological, behavioral, and material threats and exploitation, as well as enhancing their capabilities to perform their Internet related tasks effectively. Maintaining information security has become an absolute necessity, such as the security of homes, institutions and important properties. Hence, TRA has taken all necessary measures to enhance information security, and signed several MoUs with local, Arab and international bodies, including this MoU, with the aim of exchanging experiences and information to reach solutions to all problems related to cybersecurity, and to combat all attempts of piracy and privacy breach of individuals and companies in this spacious space." H.E. Al Mansoori emphasized that signing MoUs with brotherly countries will have a major role in developing information security in all countries. He added: "TRA has a great experience in the field of information security and combating piracy and electronic attacks in all forms, which it gained through years of hard work and continuous training for its national cadres. Signing these agreements reflects the aspiration of the parties to exchange experiences and expertise to reach higher levels of information security and protection of digital space users.” aeCERT aims to improve information security standards and practices, protect and support UAE ICT infrastructure against cyber threats and breaches, and build a safe and protected culture against IT crimes. aeCERT also aims to strengthening the laws of combating cybercrimes, developing new laws, enhancing awareness about information security at the national level, and building national experiences in the field of information security, emergency management and evidence screening in computers. |
