Winners Of The UAE Hackathon Data For Happiness And Wellbeing Announced In A Digital Ceremony

With the participation of more than 3000 contestants presenting 117 distinguished ideas

The Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) and the National Program for Happiness and Wellbeing celebrated the winners of the third edition of the UAE Hackathon “Data for happiness and wellbeing”  in a “digital” ceremony held today, Tuesday, at the Ministry of Possibilities in Dubai, with the participation of H.E. Ohood bint Khalfan Al Roumi, Minister of State for Happiness and Wellbeing and the Director General of the Prime Minister’s Office, and H.E. Hamad Obaid Al Mansoori, TRA Director General. 

The “Bus” Project of Abu Dhabi won the grand prize, and the following teams achieved first place at their emirates: Team Fight for Right, AU EMP, Unicorn, Create and communicate. The winning teams provided innovative solutions and smart ideas for the Hackathon challenges, in line with the future strategies of the UAE in promoting digital transformation and creating a stimulating environment for Artificial Intelligence and Fourth Industrial Revolution.

Ohood Al Roumi: Motivating innovative people to create solutions that improve wellbeing

H.E. Ohood bint Khalfan Al Roumi highlighted that the UAE Hackathon "data for happiness and wellbeing", which is held for the third consecutive year, reflects the directions of the UAE Government to motivate thinkers and innovators among students in the country and enhances partnership with them in developing and creating digital and technological solutions that improve wellbeing.

H.E. Al Roumi said that the distinguished contributions of the Hackathon participants reflected their advanced technological skills, their understanding of the concept of wellbeing and its connection with various aspects of life in society.

Minister of State for Happiness and Wellbeing praised TRA’s efforts in organizing and supervising the hackathons that are considered important support for digital transformation efforts in the UAE. She congratulated the winning teams of the 3rd edition of the UAE Hackathon, wishing them more progress and innovative achievements in academic and professional life.                                                                                                 

Hamad Al Mansoori: Preparing the young generation for the era of Artificial Intelligence and Fourth Industrial Revolution

H.E. Hamad Obaid Al Mansoori, TRA Director General, praised the great efforts of the Hackathon participants, expressing his appreciation for all the solutions and ideas generated by their creative efforts in a competition that lasted for 3 days in each emirate. H.E. Al Mansoori said: “This year, the UAE Hackathon coincides with the preparation towards the next 50, in implementation of our wise leadership directives. We start a journey of development for the next fifty years in all vital sectors, along with preparing to celebrate the Golden Jubilee of the UAE in 2021. We consider the UAE Hackathon one of the smart strategies for future preparedness. It encourages data analysis and future foresight, prepares youth for the era of Artificial Intelligence and Fourth Industrial Revolution, and establishes future skills that focus on analysis, initiative, design, critical thinking, visualizing and solving complex problems.”

He emphasized that a “digital” closing ceremony of the Hackathon embodies the UAE’s digital transformation strategy, he said: “Our digital ceremony is a perfect example of the modern form of communication and conferences. With the application of 5G and the great development in the means of communication, we need to think of new ways to hold meetings and conferences to facilitate work, save costs, reduce road congestion and save time. In the UAE, we strive to be proactive in applying future technologies and to take the lead in adopting the latest solutions and technologies"
