Sharjah Experiences Up To 100% Growth In visitors At Al Shaab Village

Boom in Ramadan shopping indicates robust growth in UAE consumer confidence

As Muslims worldwide gear up for Ramadan, UAE consumers are embracing the Ramadan spirit of generosity by buying more gifts, as well as stocking up on household supplies in preparation for fasting. This is particularly evident in Sharjah, where the number of daily visitors is doubling at Al Shaab Village - from approximately 2,500 to about 4,000, and growing to about 5,000 on weekends.

The Ramadan season amplifies the spirit of giving, as manifested in the strong consumer figures. Not only are sales typically higher than other months, but this Ramadan is also projected to witness more retail activity than previous years, due to the high consumer confidence. This has been attributed to stronger confidence in the UAE economy, as well as increased stability in the global economy.

A deeper look at consumer behavior reveals that many families are either planning to travel in the Eid period, or welcoming visitors who are traveling at that time. Hence many consumers are shopping to prepare in advance. Ramadan is associated with family bonding, and therefore many families are visiting amenities like Al Shaab Village to spend more quality time together. Another reason could also be the smoldering summer heat, which makes indoor socialization a more enticing option.

Abdulla Al Dah, CEO of Al Zajil Fair Management elaborated: “Ramadan for us is not just about selling merchandise, but helping consumers to fully experience the spirit of giving which Ramadan encourages. We understand that Ramadan is also a time for welcoming visitors. Therefore we have gone the extra mile to ensure that consumers have everything they need to spend quality time with their loved ones in a relaxing, restful and spiritually fulfilling atmosphere at home. Many visitors want to prepare early for the Eid and pre-Eid celebrations, so we conveniently facilitate that.”

Al Shaab Village is the culmination of a joint venture between Al Zajil Fair Management and Al Shaab Club. It is part of Sharjah’s effort to consolidate its reputation as an epicenter of cultural, educational and social excellence.

However, Abdulla Al Dah was quick to add that his organization is a full participant in Ramadan: “Just as people strengthen their relationships during Ramadan, we also strengthen our relationship with our visitors and local community of Sharjah, by showing them full hospitality with open arms. On this note, we wish all our visitors and all Muslims a spiritually fulfilling Ramadan filled with blessings and harmony.”
