Egypt Welcomed As Guest Of Honour At SIBF 2012











Ahmed bin Rakkadh Al Ameri, Director of the Sharjah International Book Fair (SIBF), received an Egyptian delegation, headed by Dr Ahmed Mujahid, Chairman of the Egyptian General Book Authority , accompanied by Prof Ahmed Salah Zaki, Consultant of the Egyptian General Book Authority for Foreign .

The visit aimed to highlight Egypt’s distinctive cultural and intellectual role, as supervised by the Egyptian General Book Authority in collaboration with several Egyptian cultural bodies, as well as the interest shown by both the Egyptian General Book Authority and the SIBF to strengthen ties of cooperation.

The meeting also underlined the importance of maintaining close contact between these entities in order to enable them to achieve their mutual interests and serve avid readers and book lovers regardless of their various ethnic and national backgrounds, especially those from Arab countries, and from all over the world.

The SIBF Director welcomed the Egyptian delegation, and stated that Egypt will be the guest of honour at the Sharjah World Book Fair’s upcoming edition, which is scheduled to be held from 7-17 November 2012, as per the directives of His Highness Dr Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah.

He expressed his gratitude for the effective Egyptian participation in the Sharjah Book Fair since the launch of its first edition, and also lauded the role of the Egyptian General Book Authority in enriching the previous editions of the Sharjah Book Fair.

Speaking on this occasion, Al Ameri said, “It is my great pleasure that the literary works and titles produced by brilliant Egyptian minds will be available on the shelves of the Sharjah Book Fair. We are always keen to participate in the Arab cultural forums in line with the directives of His Highness Dr Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, with regard to extending bridges of cultural communication to other nations all over the world, especially Arab and Islamic countries.”

The SIBF Director briefed his guests about the latest books and literary works to be displayed at the book fair, as well as about the arrangements and preparations being made before the launch of the upcoming edition of the Sharjah Book Fair, to be held in November 2012, in addition to the various events the SIBF Management is planning to organize during the upcoming Fair.

On his part, Dr Ahmed Mujahid, Chairman of the Egyptian General Book Authority, and his accompanying delegation, expressed their admiration for the resounding success achieved by the Sharjah Book Fair. He extended his profound thanks and gratitude to His Highness Dr Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, for this honorary hospitality and highly valued SIBF’s future plans that he was informed about.

Dr. Mujahid confirmed Egypt’s participation in the Sharjah Book Fair through an elite group of prominent literary figures, including authors, intellectuals, artists and theatrical professionals. This announcement came after the meeting Dr. Mujahid held with elite of Egyptian writers, literary figures and publishing house during which he invited them to participate in the Sharjah Book Fair –a major book industry event that is well known for its regionally and globally recognised reputation. He noted that the success of Sharjah Book Fair is the success of culture anywhere else in the world.

At the end of the visit, Ahmed Al Ameri took the Egyptian delegation on a tour of Expo Centre Sharjah where he briefed them on the various stands and exhibition areas designated for publishers, exhibitors and visitors at the Sharjah Book Fair.

The Sharjah Book Fair hosted a number of Egyptian organizers of book fairs and an elite group of prominent Egyptian authors and media personalities, and Egyptian titles showcased at the Sharjah Book Fair in previous years have received a good response from readers who are interested in the Egyptian literature.
