SCTDA Supports Khorfakkan Football Championship For The Blind

HE Mohamed Ali Al Noman, Chairman of the Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority, has reaffirmed the Authority’s commitment and continuous support to all events and activities that strengthen Sharjah’s position in the cultural, sports and economic spheres.

This came in his message on the occasion of the Academic Forum for Support and Rehabilitation of the Handicapped, organised by the Khorfakkan Club for the Handicapped under the patronage of HH Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed bin Sultan al Qassimi, Crown Prince and Deputy Ruler of Sharjah, on May 6th and 7th under the SCTDA sponsorship.

Held under the slogan, “Together for Better Support and Rehabilitation of the Handicapped,” the forum hosted eminent academics and top experts from across the region and from around the world specialising in the welfare and rehabilitation of the special needs people. A number of workshops highlighting the latest academic and scientific advances targeting different disabilities were held as part of the forum.

As part of the initiative, the SCTDA is supporting the Khorfakkan Blind Football Championship being hosted by the Emirates Association of the Blind led by HE Sheikh Saqr bin Mohamed al Qassimi this week, on Friday and Saturday (May 11 and 12).

Al Noman said that the SCTDA’s association with the Khorfakkan forum is part of the Authority’s efforts to strengthen the role of people with special needs in the society, especially the visually impaired who are striving and excelling in different walks of life.

“This sponsorship is an expression of the SCTDA’s commitment to society. The Sharjah government is sparing no effort under the leadership of His Highness Dr Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qassimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah to support the physically challenged through a number of associations and clubs that help and engage the handicapped in the UAE society,” Al Noman emphasised.

He pointed out that Sharjah has developed a special infrastructure for special needs offering security and safety for the handicapped. Educational institutions, malls, government offices and tourism projects etc in the emirate are equipped with amenities for the handicapped.

Al Noman said that the Authority is working with various public and private sector players to enhance the emirate’s ability to host activities and events for special needs people that engage the society and the media.

The SCTDA supports a number of activities and events for people with special needs, including the Khorfakkan International Weightlifting Championship for the Handicapped organised by the Khorfakkan Club for the Handicapped.
