Khorfakkan Nations Cup Promises To Be First Of Its Kind Sports-Entertainment Extravaganza

Loads Of Fun And Entertainment To Mark First Motorboat Championship Being Attended By Seven Nations, Saysal Noman

The first H20 Nations Cup Motorboat Championship, to be held in the port city of Khorfakkan from March 28 to 31, will turn the spotlight on Sharjah’s East Coast and is a celebration of the emirate’s and the UAE’s heritage, culture and spirit of togetherness, said HE Mohamed Ali Al Noman, Chairman of the Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority.

Formally unveiling the H20 Nations Cup in the presence of the event organisers and partners and sponsors at a press conference today (Wednesday), Al Noman said that the first ever Nations Cup is not merely an international sports championship but another feather in Sharjah’s cap and a proud addition to the emirate’s busy, year-long calendar of events and festivals.

“What makes the Nations Cup special is the fact that it is being held in the beautiful city of Khorfakkan on the magnificent East Coast of Sharjah, which has always been immensely popular with both residents and international visitors. This is the first of its kind sporting spectacle in the port city and we expect a massive response from both sports enthusiasts as well as general public. We also hope this would attract more domestic and international visitors to Khorfakkan and East Coast,” said the SCTDA Chairman.

International motorboat teams taking part in the Nations Cup include Team UAE, Team Qatar, Team Malaysia, Team Brazil, Team Brunei, Team Finland and Team South Africa.

Al Noman said that the H20 Nations Cup will be more than a Motorboat championship. “This event is also a celebration of our heritage, culture and our family values. This is why alongside the Motorboat Championship, the Nations Cup will see a series of cultural events and entertainment and fun and games for the whole family. “

Some of the exciting fair and activities on offer during the 4-day event include a fire and light shows, electro show, horse parade, archery, stilts and clowns, magic shows, human table football, air soft shooting, wall climbing, night bazaar, mini zoo, camel rides, fun fair, arts and crafts, potato heads, virtual games, redemption games, trampoline, inflatables and much, much more, he added.

“The H20 Nations Cup is another feather in Sharjah’s cap and a great addition to our year-long busy calendar of world-class events and festivals celebrating arts, heritage, culture and the spirit of togetherness that this emirate and the nation represent. It adds spice and variety to the tourism sector in the emirate. Our objective is to turn the emirate into a truly global and complete tourism destination for the entire family whose doors are open to everyone from around the globe,” emphasised the SCTDA Chairman.

The efforts to put the emirate on the global tourism map have been bearing results with Sharjah receiving all-round recognition and accolades and attracting record number of international tourists in recent times, he added. “I believe this is just the beginning and we have a long way to go.”
