Sharjah Light Fest Preparations In Full Swing

European Artists Busy Putting Together Another Grand Spectacle

Preparations are in full swing for the breathlessly awaited Sharjah Light Festival 2012 that will be held from February 9 to 17. The Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority is busy giving final touches to the arrangements for the festival of lights and colours to make it a grand success once again.

International teams of experts and artists led by Nomada, the renowned French event management company, are already in Sharjah putting together another breathtaking spectacle celebrating the emirate’s architectural grandeur and magnificent monuments and landmarks.

Being held for the second consecutive year, the SLF is already considered one of the most popular and not-to-be-missed events held in the UAE and the region. For nine nights, 12 popular landmarks across the emirate will host some of the most magical shows and the most inventive interplay of lights and colours ever seen in the region.

This year several new locations such as the recently-opened, upscale Al Majaz Waterfront overlooking the Khalid Lagoon, Golden Mile, Sharjah International Airport and the majestic Courthouse complex next to the Creek have been added to the itinerary, promising even greater fun for the spectators and visitors.

Some of the artists and performers from Europe who have arrived in Sharjah and are preparing for the action that begins on Thursday include Skertzo, the French masters of iIlusion (performing at Al Qasba), TILT (Al Majaz Waterfront and Cultural Square etc), Patrice Warrener (Al Majaz mosque), Carabosse (Central Souk), Laurent Langlois (Courthouse), Limelight (Al Hisn), Mounir Harbaouiis (Kuwait Roundabout and Consultative Council) and many others.

The first of its kind in the Middle East, the Light Festival attracted more than 90,000 visitors when it debuted last year. The organisers expect even greater response this year with the addition of new venues and the attention that the festival attracted last year. It will be a truly memorable and exciting experience befitting the image of Sharjah, the Cultural Capital of the Arab and Islamic world, said one of the organisers. All SLF shows are free and will be held from 7pm till midnight, making creative use of latest technology in lighting, laser and 3D techniques combined with the popular art of storytelling to produce a magical experience for the spectators.
