Spectacular Sharjah Light Festival From Feb 9

New Shows, Techniques Make SLF 2012 Unique, Exciting: Al Qassimi

The Sharjah Light Festival 2012 promises to be more spectacular and more exciting than ever with new locations and exciting new features being added to the festival of lights being held from 9th to 17th of this month. This was announced by Sheikh Sultan Bin Ahmed Al Qassimi, Chairman of the Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority, at a press conference today along with the senior Sharjah government officials, festival sponsors and media partners.

The Sharjah Light Festival, in its second year, has already come to be recognised as one of the most important events in the region. The festival reaffirms Sharjah’s position as one of the top world cities identified with festival tourism, playing a crucial role in attracting tourists. The SLF 2012 will once again turn the spotlight on the emirate’s celebrated landmarks and Arab and Islamic heritage from 12 locations across Sharjah.

In a speech at the Press conference, Sheikh Sultan Bin Ahmed Al Qassimi said the SCTDA is driven by the vision and leadership of Sharjah’s Ruler in its efforts to take Sharjah to the world, bolstering its position on the global tourism map.

Referring to the tremendous success of the festival last year, he said the SLF 2012 would be an even greater success and more memorable experience for the residents and visitors. The SCTDA Chairman said the SLF 2012 has several exciting new surprises and features in store put together by international artists and professionals.

“New locations and landmarks have been added and new programs in 3D technology are being used to create a real life experience. The whole experience of using lights and colours, coupled with the ancient art of storytelling, to present Sharjah’s popular landmarks and buildings in a new light will be magical,” he said.

Al Qassimi thanked the festival sponsors and media partners for their continuous support in the SCTDA’s efforts to promote Sharjah as a favourite family tourism destination regionally and internationally.

Here are the 12 locations that will host the SLF this year: Al Qasba (Internal façade and External façade, next to the mosque), Sharjah Hisn (Fort), Palm Oasis Front, Cultural Square, Al Majaz Waterfront, Al Majaz Masjid, House of Justice (Court House), Central Souk, Sharjah Consultative Council, Kuwait Square, Golden Mile and Sharjah International Airport. The SLF shows will be held from 7pm to 12night.

Nomada is the event partner and co-sponsors of the SLF 2012 include Sharjah Municipality, Sharjah Police, SEWA, Civil Defence Department, Zulal Water. Mega Mall and Sahara Center are the campaign supporters while Sharjah Radio and TV and Al Khaleej newspaper are the media partners.

The Sharjah Light Festival, first of its kind in the Middle East, attracted in its first year more than 90,000 visitors of different nationalities from across the region and around the world. This number is expected to go up this year with the organisers adding new locations and new shows and techniques, including the 3D mapping, to the lights and colour extravaganza.
