Sharjah to take part in Leisure Moscow for 12th year in a row


Russian tourist rank first with 14pc of general tourists this year: Al Noman










The Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority continues boosting its presence in the Russian markets by participation in the high profile Leisure Moscow taking place in the Russian capital, Moscow, from 19-22 September, 2012 for the 12th consecutive year.

This comes right after the Roadshow the SCTDA has conducted in the Russian cities of Kazan and Yekaterinburg between 3-10 September.

Sharjah delegation, headed by HE Mohamed Ali Al Noman Chairman of the SCTDA, includes a number of senior government officials and representatives from public and private sector. The Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority, Sharjah Airport Authority, Air Arabia, Ramada Sharjah, Sharjah International Hotels, Al Khalidiah Tourism, Golden Tulip Sharjah, Time Ruby Hotel Apartment, fair Mount Tourism.

Commenting on the participating, Al Noman said “ Sharjah today tops the favourite tourist destinations in the Russian market. Russian tourists consider the emirate a symbol of family, cultural and heritage tourism with 160,722 Russians visited Sharjah between January and August this year. In fact, the Russians ranked first among tourist arrivals in Sharjah representing 14 pc from the total number of tourists that visited the emirate in the same period with 1,110,200 international tourists. “

The SCTDA is sparing no efforts to promote the emirate and attract thousands of Russian tourists to enjoy the sunny weather and golden beaches in Sharjah city and on the East Coast that can be enjoyed throughout the year, and build new relationships with Russian investors and tourism players, Al Noman added.

The Sharjah delegation is looking to hold a series of meetings and exchange of ideas ,during the 4 days exhibition, with prominent Russian and European travel and tourism agencies and companies, opening new partnerships with the Russian and European market.

The SCTDA is targeting the Russian tourists and boosting the emirates position in these markets. The emirate participates as well in Moscow International Travel and Tourism (MITT) exhibition and organizes roadshows in the CIS countries, Al Noman said.

The SCTDA launched earlier its website in Russian (www.sharjahtourism.ae/ru) targeting Russian tourists and offering a peek into the emirate of amazing contrasts with its rich heritage, sun-kissed beaches, endless shopping opportunities and a calendar full world class events and entertainment taking place in the emirate all around the year.

Leisure Moscow is one of the most prominent leisure tourism exhibitions worldwide, which takes place in an area of 40,680 sq. metres with the participation of around 1.359 exhibitors from around the world. Sharjah has received a number of awards during its participation in previous editions of Leisure Moscow, including for the ‘Best Promotional Campaign’ in 2004 and ‘Most Active Participant’ in 2009.
