Al Majaz Waterfront And Al Qasba Evenings Come Alive With Argentinian Folk Dance

Sharjah’s favourite tourist and leisure destinations, Al Majaz Waterfront and Al Qasba, in collaboration with the Directorate of Heritage and the Embassy of the Republic of Argentina, will be hosting two evenings each dedicated to celebrating the rich traditions of Argentinean folk dance with ten separate shows running from 6:15pm to 11pm each night. On the 17th and the 18th at Al Majaz Waterfront and the 19th and 20th at Al Qasba, the Argentinian Folk Dance Group will entertain and delight visitors with performances of a wide selection of traditional dance from the heart of beautiful Argentina.

Ahmed Obaid Al Qaseer, Sharjah Investment and Development Authority (Shurooq) Chief Operating Officer commented, "As the recognised cultural capital of the Arab world, Sharjah puts a high premium on the importance building understanding and fostering relationships through cultural exchange. Through this event we want to both celebrate the rich traditions of Argentina and create greater understanding between the people of Sharjah and the region and their South American counterparts. Dance and song are universal elements that have the ability to bypass the perceived differences that divide people and help us find common ground and a basis for understanding and tolerance amongst all.

Al Qaseer went on to emphasise that Shurooq will continue to actively pursue projects that encourage cultural exchange and foster greater ties amongst the many diverse communities that are represented in the Emirate and the greater UAE.

Abdulaziz Al Musallam, Director of Heritage and Culture at the Department of Culture and Information, said, "The folk traditions of any nation are an intrinsic part of its heritage. Through the traditions of song, dance, and storytelling they serve as a tie to past and a way to celebrate, share, and preserve a community’s unique cultural identity. One of the key functions of the Directorate Of Heritage is creating greater public awareness of the importance of folklore and as such we are very pleased to have been able to collaborate in bringing this enriching event to the people of Sharjah and the UAE."

Dancers will be performing regional folk dances such as the Sur, Litoral, Danza hoy, Norte and Pampeano Al Qasba and Al Majaz Waterfront, to the accompaniment of folksongs and the bandoneón - a close cousin of the concertina. The selection of dances has been chosen to showcase the diversity of styles, tempos, and rythms that make up traditional dance in Argentina.
