Sharjah Art Museum Organizes Panel Discussion “Present And Future Of Contemporary Art In The UAE”











The Sharjah Art Museum has organized a panel discussion titled ‘Present and Future of Contemporary Art in the UAE’, with the participation of an elite group of , thinkers, writers, artists and intellectuals, along with students and individuals interested in art affairs in the country.

 
Moderated by Emirati artist Khalil Abdulwahid, the panel discussion was held in conjunction with the ‘Lasting Impressions’ exhibition, the 3rd edition of which is currently hosting renowned Emirati artist Abdulqader Al Rais. 
Speakers at the panel discussion included the celebrated UAE artist Abdulqader Al Rais, Emirati artist Dr Najat Meky, Syrian artist Ismail Al Rifai, and Dr Omar Abdul Aziz, who explored the realty of contemporary art in the region in general, and in the UAE in particular. The speakers underlined the current status of young artists and the level of support they receive from various institutions compared to that of their counterparts and pioneers of modern art in the past.
 
They also highlighted the experiences of the participating artists in the previous editions of the ‘Lasting Impressions’ exhibition, and the exhibition’s role in enhancing the movement of contemporary art in the country.
 
Speaking on the occasion, Manal Ataya , SMD’s Director Manager said, “The panel discussion creates a much needed dialogue between pioneers of contemporary art and the current and upcoming generation of young artists, while offering an excellent opportunity for them to network, meet, and exchange views and ideas. It also aims to put forward suggestions for raising community awareness about visual arts and highlights the role of government institutions and the media in supporting the arts and artists.”  
At the conclusion of the Panel discussion, the attendants took a tour of the exhibition, accompanied by pioneering UAE artist Abdulqader Al Rais who highlighted his works and the development of his signature style throughout his 40-year rich experience in contemporary fine art. Al Rais, who is inspired by the region’s landscape and local heritage, emphasized the importance of adapting to the sources of ambient environment and local heritage, as well as the role they play in enriching the art movement.
 
The participants hailed the role of the Sharjah Museum Department in organizing such important panel discussion and also praised the immeasurable support extended by the leadership to the arts and artists, as well as the continuous noble directives aimed at empowering art to play its vital role in life and civilization.
