Winners Announced For 28th Asian International Philatelic Exhibition











The winners of the 28th Asian International Philatelic Exhibition - hosted by Emirates Philatelic Association (EPA) and Mega Mall - have been announced at the Palmares Night, of the 6-day long event. 

A total of 200 philatelists and philately enthusiasts competed for the eight coveted medals which included Large gold and gold medals, large vermeil and vermeil, large silver, silver, silver bronze and bronze medals; Chen Yu-An from Chinese Taipei and Prasatporn Eksombatchai from Thailand clinched large gold medals; Feridoun Novin from Iran, Kazuyuki Inoue of Japan, Sdiann Ng from Singapore and Thais Ayuth Krishnamara and Ukris Utensute won gold medals.

Abdulla Mohammad Khoory, president of the EPA, commented, "The Emirates Philately Association is extremely proud of all those who partook in the exhibition, as it is because of them that the 28th Asian International Stamp Exhibition was a success. For us, each and every one of these philatelists is a winner. The decision was extremely difficult for us to make, as we were looking at amazing collections with a wide array of rare and old stamps."

The Palmares Night, a grand dinner for all participants organised at Hotel Holiday International, was graced by important personalities from the media and business who had come together to congratulate the winners.

UAE’s Nasser Bin Ahmad bin Eisa Al Serkal - the 19-year-old philatelist, was the youngest competitor at the exhibition and took home the vermeil medal, the thirteenth medal since 2005 for his vast collection. 

Saeed bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, vice president of Mega Mall, commented, "Mega Mall has always stayed at the forefront for encouraging healthy competition and endeavours to see the Asian nations in close cooperation through philately. It is extremely encouraging to see that people are still so passionate about the philately and stamps. Seeing the 200 participants, exhibitors and stamp dealers come together with their excellent collections, was an amazing experience."

Apart from the competitors, two of the exhibitors from Bahrain and Kuwait, have also secured gold medals for their outstanding collection of stamps. 

Around 14 participants have seized large vermeil and vermeil medals namely Mohamad Aktar from UAE, Sultan Mahmud from Pakistan, Australian Gary Brown and Chiu Chen-Lung from Chinese Taipei, while Pakistan’s Mohammad Arif, Saudi Arabia’s Yakub Dehlavi, Bangladesh’s Sheikh Shafiqul Islam, Yew Huee Loh from Singapore, CHU Wing Yeu from Hong Kong, Indonesian Indira Kusuma, South African Ian Matheson, Australians Glenn Stafford and Ian McMahan and New Zealand’s Josh Black secured vermeil medals.
