Sharjah Preparations For F1 World Cup In Final Stage

Emirate Ideal For Hosting International Events: Noman

Sharjah is buzzing with excitement and activity as international teams and media have started arriving in the emirate for the much awaited UIM F1H20 World Powerboat Championship to be held on December 6 and 7, kick-starting the 16-day long Sharjah Water Festival, 2012, being held next month from 6 to 21.

The Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority has confirmed that all arrangements are in place for the most prestigious and important event hosted by the emirate. Everything is in place to receive international teams participating in the year’s top powerboating event – the final round of the UIM F1H2O World Championship 2012, the Grand Prix of Sharjah, according to the SWF Organising Committee.

Al Noman said that the emirate was once again very excited and looked forward to hosting the popular festival beginning with the great sporting spectacle of Sharjah Grand Prix, reaffirming the emirate’s capability and pre-eminence in organising such world-class events.

“Twenty-four boats of the best F1 racers from around the globe will once again compete in the prestigious international championship forming the grand finale of an action-packed season,” the SCTDA Chairman pointed out.

Meanwhile the Authority is set to host international media teams from Europe, Middle East and Asia who will be covering the Sharjah Water Festival and Sharjah Grand Prix for audiences back home.

Al Noman said that the Authority had intensified its efforts and was working with Sharjah government departments and agencies for a smooth and successful championship once again. He said that the cooperation of these SCTDA partners and logistical support they provided played a significant role in the success of the race.

To discuss the arrangements and introduce the participating teams, the SCTDA will be hosting a press conference on Wednesday (December 5) which will be attended by Al Noman, and HE Nicolo de San Germano, the promoter of the UIM H20 World Championship as well as F1 world champions and sponsors and delegates from local and international media.

As in the past, two fully equipped media centres have been set up at Al Majaz Park and on the terrace of Hotel Corniche Al Buheirah, now named as Hilton Sharjah, offering a perfect view of all the fun and action down in the shimmering waters of Khalid Lagoon during the Powerboat championship. The UIM F1H20 Championship, held consecutively for the past 13 years, attracts more than 75,000 motorsports enthusiasts from across the country and beyond.

Sharjah won the UIM Best Organiser Award for five years—in 2000, 2002, 2003, 2004 and 2007--and the World Journalism Award in 2001 for its successful organisation of the event.
