Sharjah Unveils A Spectacular Grand Prix Today

Championship Saw Great Success In Previous Years : Noman

It’s going to be a thrilling and spectacular Sharjah Grand Prix this weekend with Khalid Lagoon coming alive with loads of action and Formula 1 fun. SCTDA Chairman HE Mohamed Ali Al Noman, accompanied by F1 Powerboat promoter Niclo De San Germano and participating international teams, formally unveiled the UIM F1H20 Powerboat World Championship 2012 to be held in Khalid Lagoon on Thursday and Friday (December 6 and 7.)

Speaking on the occasion, Al Noman promised an action-packed Powerboat World Championship this year saying that the event is eagerly awaited each year by sports enthusiasts and members of the public because of all the fun it brought to the emirate. He said that the UIM F1H20 World Championship, being held for the 13th consecutive year, is a source of pride not just for Sharjah and the UAE but for the whole region.

Addressing a Press conference here today with Niclo De San Germano, Al Noman said the successful hosting of world class events such as the Sharjah Grand Prix and Sharjah Water Festival reaffirmed the superb organizational capabilities of the emirate that is a global destination with world class infrastructure. Al Noman said this year the Sharjah Water Festival has lined up some of the most amazing international entertainment shows for the whole family.

The SCTDA Chairman thanked His Highness Dr Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qassimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah for the leadership and guidance and His Highness Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed bin Sultan Al Qassimi, Crown Prince and Deputy Ruler of Sharjah for his continuous patronage and support.

He said that the SCTDA has been working at various levels pursuing a long-term strategy to promote Sharjah’s tourism sector. “These efforts are beginning to bear fruit which is seen in various accolades and honours coming our way. In October this year, Sharjah was declared the Capital of Arab Tourism for 2015 by Arab tourism ministers. These honours and recognition place greater responsibility on us to work even harder.”

He referred to the first Nations Cup Powerboat championship held in Khorfakkan earlier this year as a new chapter in the nation’s history in terms of hosting international tournaments and events.

He thanked all those who are sponsoring and supporting the Sharjah Grand Prix, including Sharjah government departments and private sector that have provided logistical and technical support. He also thanked the Abu Dhabi Marine Sports Club and Mr Nicolo Di San Germano, the UIM F1H2O World Championship promoter, for their constant support.

Meanwhile all the participating teams in the Championship have arrived in Sharjah and are preparing for the action in Khalid Lagoon tomorrow (Thursday).
