Camp Hope Adds To Sharjah Water Fest Fun

More Than 20 Diverse Activities And Global Shows

The fun and frolic of the Sharjah Water Festival at Al Majaz Park got a big boost yesterday (Sunday, December 16) when it received visitors from the Camp Hope, which included a group of children with special needs with their escorts and supervisors.

They young visitors went around taking part in various shows and more than 20 activities at Al Majaz Park and Mouj Island and had loads of fun before watching a special show of the Russian circus on water.

The exclusive show was hosted by the Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority as a special gesture and as part of the emirate’s belief in the right of special needs people to integrate into the community and society and take part in various social, cultural and entertainment activities.

A carnival spirit prevailed as the clowns and special gifts and offers welcomed the Camp Hope visitors who enjoyed themselves thoroughly and shared the festivities and celebrations.

The Camp Hope is organised under the patronage of His Highness Dr Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, from December 16 to 20 under the slogan, ‘Environments—Security and Aspirations’. The initiative is aimed at creating right environment for grooming children with special needs. The special needs children, their friends and all participants and volunteers in the camp (called Al Amal in Arabic) are provided all possible facilities and support to help them to have fun and realize their full potential.

Meanwhile SCTDA Chairman HE Mohammed Ali Al Noman emphasised the importance of organising events that are unique and truly fun in the days to come in accordance with Sharjah’s image as a major family tourism destination. Al Noman said that the 6th edition of the Sharjah Water Festival had already received more than 53,000 visitors, saying, “this should only encourage us to step up our efforts to promote Sharjah and work to benefit from the experiences of the past few years.”

Al Noman said that the Authority is proud to have organised events like the Hope Camp visit and delegations from social and humanitarian institutions and their interest in the festival. He said the success wouldn’t have been possible without the support and guidance of His Highness Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah and His Highness Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Crown Prince and Deputy Ruler of Sharjah. Al Noman stressed on the diverse nature of events and festivals held in Sharjah throughout the year meeting the requirements of local, regional and international visitors.

He said that the new look Sharjah Water Festival this year is an opportunity to spend and share an unforgettable time with family in a festive atmosphere. The SWF organising committee’s efforts to promote and highlight the event will contribute to promoting of Sharjah as a perfect family destination and help tourist inflow to the emirate, said the SCTDA Chairman.

Al Majaz Park, the main venue, has been divided into different zones to suit various events and help visitors move from one zone to another smoothly and enjoying them all, said Al Noman. Restaurants, ticket and inquiry counters and Mouj souvenir shops have been grouped together to help the visitors.

He said that the SCTDA has been as always keen to integrate authentic cultural heritage and diverse international events within the festival, reflecting a beautiful blend of Emirati and Sharjah culture, food and customs with international presentations and artists.

The Sharjah Water Festival, being held from 6 to 21 December, began with a bang with the UIM F1H20 World Powerboat Championship in Khalid Lagoon attracting more than 75,000 spectators.
