"MUSANADA" Commences Refurbishment Project For Eight Schools In Abu Dhabi And Al Ain

Musanada, the Abu Dhabi general services company serving the government of Abu Dhabi, has signed four contracts with local construction companies on behalf of the Abu Dhabi Educational Council (ADEC)_to carry out refurbishment and maintenance on eight schools in Abu Dhabi and Al Ain.

The project, which lasts 172 days between February and July 2013, is expected to upgrade the school facilities and bring them in line with the ADEC’s new stringent quality guidelines. Changes will be made to both interior fittings and exteriors.

The contract scope covers the replacement and refurbishment of the schools’ heating, ventilation and Air conditioning systems, lighting, toilets, sanitation and infrastructure. It also involves the development of new scientific laboratories and educational areas, and the building of multipurpose and administrative offices.

Communal areas will be built so the schools may follow ADEC’s remit of community-based education. The schools’ security systems and health and safety procedures will also be updated in line with best practices.

The school’s redesign pays attention to ideas of sustainability, and uses environmentally friendly lighting and reduced electrical power consumption for air conditioning, plus a host of other measures.

The school refurbishment considers inclusion for students with special needs, offering upgraded facilities including elevators, private bathrooms, ramps and appropriate class layouts.

Finally, the refurbishment takes into account the school exteriors and outer shells, ensuring consistency in appearance and adherence to a modern aesthetic as per development considerations set out in the Plan Abu Dhabi 2030.

“Musanada is keen to complete the refurbishment project within time and budget, just as it has completed similar projects in the past. From the appointment of the right technical partners and managing the project, right down to ensuring the best results possible, Musanada’s aim is always to offer the best in technical support to government entities such as the ADEC in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi. We will ensure that these projects are undertaken with a commitment towards excellent quality within budget to serve our citizens as set out by the government in the Plan Abu Dhabi 2030,” said Muna Al Qubaisi, Director of Building Projects Services, Musanada.

Eng. Khaled Al Ansari, ADEC School Services Division Manager, said that ADEC strategies focus on providing students with an attractive learning environment that helps develop their personal skills and enhance creativity. “This project aims to upgrade the facilities of public schools across the Emirate of Abu Dhabi in line with the best international practices and standards,” he added.

"The project is designed to help ADEC achieve its vision, meet the requirements of the New School Model, integrate ICT in schools, and safeguard student health and security. In addition, indoor and outdoor sports, social & cultural facilities as well as other spaces will be provided to enable students to develop their physical fitness and social skills,” Al Ansari added.

Musanada has successfully delivered on a similar project to refurbish eight schools in Abu Dhabi and Al Ain in 2010 and 2011, and had managed to get the schools open on time despite only having a very short span of eighty-five days to complete all refurbishing activities.

Musanada was founded in 2007 under a decree issued by His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, to provide support services to all departments, agencies and government entities in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi.
