Abu Dhabi International Airport The First To Receive Full Certification In The United Arab Emirates

Capital Airport Is First In The Country To Be General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) And ICAO Licensed

Abu Dhabi Airports Company (ADAC) today announced that its Abu Dhabi International Airport has been issued full certification by the General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA). The Certification is in accordance with UAE federal Civil Aviation Regulations, based on the Standards of Annex 14 & 17 to the Convention on International Civil Aviation. ADAC Chairman and Managing Director, Khalifa Al Mazrouei said:“I am delighted that Abu Dhabi International is the first airport in the UAE to receive full certification in accordance with UAE and international (ICAO) aviation standards. This is an essential and significant step forward in our campaign to create a world-class gateway for Abu Dhabi International Airport.” Saif Mohammed Al Suwaidi, Director General of the UAE General Civil Aviation Authority, the agency that licensed the airport said: “The certification of our capital city airport in the midst of a massive redevelopment project, signals a structured and co-operative approach by ADAC and the GCAA to enable our national airport system to operate within the parameters of safe airport operations, an extremely challenging task when our airports are undergoing massive expansions to accommodate the increasing level of aviation movements in the UAE. This is a huge step forward in building a planned national aerospace system.” The ADAC chairman added: “The certification will reassure our stakeholders that safety is ADAC’s number one priority and is the result of a good deal of work from our safety team, the wider workforce at ADAC, the agencies at the airport and close co-operation with the GCAA.” Al Mazrouei continued: “The full certification by its nature defines us as one of the safest in the region. This certification along with our certification for customer services from Airport Council International (ACI) is a clear and tangible sign that ADAC continues to make progress. ADAC was recently presented with the ACI “Service Quality Assured” certification. The ACI Service Quality Assured Certification is based on annual results of overall satisfaction of international passengers.” The Aerodrome License is issued by the GCAA once an airport fulfils internationally established federal civil aviation requirements, set by ICAO, the United Nations specialized global aviation body responsible for the standardization and regulation of international aviation. Since ADAC’s inception in March 2006, the company has made it a priority to achieve full certification. In addition to meeting local and international requirements for certification, ADAC has implemented its safety management system and international aviation security and quality assurance programs as required by Annex 14 (safety) & 17 (security), to the Convention on International Civil Aviation.
