Mohammed views masterplan of Yas Marina Formula 1 Circuit

H.H. Gen. Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, opened today at the Emirates Palace an exhibition for the distinctive designs and projects of the Yas Marina Circuit Masterplan, which will host the Abu Dhabi Formula 1 Grand Prix in 2009. His Excellency Khaldoon Al Mubarak, Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Executive Affairs Authority, said, "The Yas Marina Circuit is a real investment in developing sports infrastructure in Abu Dhabi. The Circuit will stand out as a stunning signature landmark in the world of design and construction,". According to him, the development of the Circuit and its related facilities will add a new dimension to the raft of initiatives launched by Abu Dhabi to shape its future landmarks. "The Yas Marina Formula 1 Circuit will come to existence after 12 months from now and today’s presentation reveals project features that come to light for the first time to show what shape the motor racing facility will look like and what spectators of the anticipated Formula 1 on 15th November 2009 will see at the end of the day. We are confident that these final lay-outs will exceed the fans’ expectations," he indicated. Al Mubarak paid profound gratitude to the developer, ALDAR Properties, for the exceptional efforts it made in the construction of the huge project. He expressed his hope the Circuit would be the best and state-of-the-art motor racing track in the world in terms of technical, technological, sports and leisure facilities. "The Circuit will open for motor racing events throughout the year. We hope it would be a new addition to the Formula 1 circuits around the world," he concluded. After the inaugural address, Sheikh Mohammed viewed the blueprints of the circuit. Internationally-renowned F1 circuit designer Philippe Gurdjian gave an elaborate presentation of the 5.55 kilometre motor sport facility. The layout features two additional track configurations, two pit buildings, an innovative dragstrip, a unique butterfly formation karting track, stylish grandstands and sophisticated Marina area including a hotel and yacht club. The Yas Island features other attractions such as signature hotels, the Ferrari theme park, Warner Brothers theme park, water park, parkland golf courses, marinas, polo clubs, apartments, villas and numerous retail outlets that will create a unique international tourist destination. The unique Yas Marina Hotel is the jewel in the Yas Marina Circuit crown. It is the first hotel in the World that spans the race track providing a World Class VVIP guest experience. In short, Yas Marina Circuit sets a new benchmark in exceptional creative race track design. The sophisticated Yas Marina Yacht Club will be the first port of call for those wishing to combine land and sea sport allowing them to experience everything Yas Marina Circuit has to offer including superb dining options and boutique shopping. The distinctive design will allow yachts to berth alongside the track as it wraps itself around the marina, giving the Abu Dhabi race its own unique identity. The track will boast an average speed of 198 km/h and there will be at least three obvious areas for overtaking. The 10 metre track elevation in relation to the turns will also make driving very difficult and demanding, making it a thrilling experience for drivers and spectators alike. Ahmed Al Sayegh, Chairman of Al DAR, said the circuit is the cornerstone of the development masterplan of the Yas Island which would accommodate a unique tourist destination with residential and commercial complexes and mixed use community centres. "The combination of the facilities will play a crucial role in the development of Abu Dhabi," he added. The exhibition will welcome Formula 1 fans till the end of November. Later, a mobile version of the exhibition will be taken to the Shanghai World Formula 1 Circuit for display.
