UAE improves ranking on Global Competitiveness Report

The United Arab Emirates has consolidated its position as one of the most competitive economies in the region, moving up by six positions to 31st place in the Global Competitiveness Report 2008 -2009, released by the World Economic Forum. Overall, the country improves its ranking across all pillars of the Growth Competitiveness Index (GCI), with a more stable macroeconomic environment and a better assessment of the quality of the educational system. The country’s institutional environment remains a competitive advantage, characterized by a low regulatory burden (5th), high public trust in politicians (8th), and reliable police services, positioning the country at 79th overall. In addition, the use and penetration of ICTs and other advanced technologies are widespread and are increasingly catching up with the rest of the world, allowing the country to move up in the rankings to 28th position in this area.
