The Ministry of Culture, Youth and Community Development, will hold a UAE Culture Week in Syria from November 13 to 19. The event is part of the activities marking the choosing of Damascus as the Arab Capital of Culture for the year 2008. A delegation from the ministry, led by Minister of Culture, Youth and Community Development, Abdul Rahman bin Mohammed Al-Owais, other UAE officials, and a number of UAE cultural organisations will attend the event, Bilal Al-Badour, Executive Director for Arts and Cultural Affairs at the ministry, disclosed this today during a press conference at the ministry’s premises. Al-Badour said the UAE remained committed to interacting continuously with sister Arab and friendly countries in all areas, particularly in the area of cultural exchange, which effectively helps in strengthening the bond of brotherhood and friendship among peoples. He said it is the first time the UAE is participating in such an event with a delegation of about 140 members to be witness to Syria’s celebration of the coronation of its capital as the 2008 Arab Capital of Culture, adding that the event will provide opportunity for culture ministers from various Arab countries attending the event to witness the UAE Culture Week for first hand information about UAE’s culture and civilisation.
