ADAC Putts Golf On Agenda Ahead Of Tee ’3’ Off

ADAC welcomes the world’s top players to the Abu Dhabi Golf Championship as event’s gold sponsor

Reigning Open Champion, Padraig Harrington, and world number two, Sergio Garcia, are among the key names set to descend on Abu Dhabi this week as the world’s top golfers arrive in the UAE capital for the Abu Dhabi Golf Championship 2009. Just weeks ahead of Abu Dhabi International Airport’s final stage opening of its new Terminal 3 facility, Abu Dhabi Airports Company (ADAC), has lent its support to the much anticipated golfing event as this year’s gold sponsor, and is prepared to receive the influx of participants and supporters expected through Abu Dhabi International in the next few days. Abu Dhabi International Airport’s Terminal 3 is expected to unveil its final stage opening, including its new 19 boutique stores and Duty Free offering at the terminal within weeks. Over the last few seasons, the Abu Dhabi Golf Championship has become one of an increasing number of high-profile sporting events to be held in the UAE capital and will no doubt be welcomed by the avid golfing community based here in the Emirate, as well as attracting an increasing audience from the wider UAE and beyond. Sheikha Al Maskari, ADAC’s vice president of Corporate Affairs, said: “ADAC’s support of the Abu Dhabi Golf Championship is in line with the company’s commitment to support the Emirate’s clear ambitions to become a world-class destination for sports and culture. The Abu Dhabi Golf Championship is clearly one such event that both places the UAE capital on the international sporting map and - equally - offers something back to the fervent local support the game has here in the UAE.” As gold sponsor, ADAC will have a hospitality area at the event and welcomes all visitors attending the championship to visit its ‘chalet’ with golf-related entertainment and prizes on offer. To be held at the Abu Dhabi National Golf Club, this year’s Championship will be played over 72 holes of stroke play for a US$2 million prize, and the prestigious Falcon Trophy. The four-day tournament will tee-off on Thursday 15 January with the final round set for Sunday 18 January.
