GE Highlights Commitment to Sustainable Energy Technologies at World Future Energy Summit in Abu Dhabi

ABU DHABI, UNITED ARAB EMIRATES—January 17, 2009: As part of its global and regional commitment to meet customer demand for more energy efficient solutions, GE is playing a prominent role at the second annual World Future Energy Summit (WFES) to be held in Abu Dhabi from January 19-21 at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre. GE is bringing together the combined strengths of its Energy, Water and Oil & Gas businesses to showcase advanced renewable and alternative energy technologies that can help its public and private sector customers meet their business and environmental objectives through optimizing the use of the Middle East’s existing energy resources. The Summit, presented by Masdar, an Abu Dhabi government initiative owned by Mubadala Development Company, is shining the international spotlight on Abu Dhabi’s commitment and investment in advanced, cleaner energy and water treatment solutions to create a more sustainable model for the Middle East. “GE is working closely with our partners across the Middle East to deliver and develop energy-efficient and renewable technology solutions that are tailored to the region’s needs and benefit from its available natural resources,” said Joseph Anis, GE Energy’s Region Executive for the Middle East. “The region has the opportunity to become a role model to create a more advanced and truly sustainable energy economy. With its successful partnering in the development of the UAE and region’s economies and its advanced cleaner technologies, GE is well positioned to contribute to the region’s sustainable development model.” GE will showcase its diverse energy technologies, including wind, solar and biogas as well as advanced nuclear reactor solutions, at the event. Apart from sharing how its traditional steam turbine technology can be used in concentrated solar power plants, GE also will detail how its fuel-flexible turbines and integrated gasification systems can utilize heavy fuel oil or other difficult fuels, natural gas and industrial waste gases more efficiently to facilitate lower operator costs and reduce site emissions. GE also is a leading provider of technology for the global oil and gas industry, including pipeline integrity management solutions to support regional energy security and environmental protection initiatives. Recognizing the region’s growing need for fresh water, GE will display its portfolio of energy-efficient seawater and brackish water desalination systems that can provide sustainable new sources of fresh water for municipal and industrial uses. GE’s expertise in water reuse further strengthens its customer offerings, with robust solutions that can restore wastewater to high quality and dramatically reduce demand on potable supplies. At the Summit, GE will showcase ecomagination®, the company’s initiative to help meet customer demand for innovative solutions to environmental challenges. Ecomagination® is part of the cleaner energy research and development initiatives encompassed in the partnership between Mubadala and GE announced in July 2008. GE will be exhibiting in Booth 6200 at the Summit. Additionally, Steve Fludder, GE’s Vice President of ecomagination®, will address the Summit keynote session entitled “World Future Energy Policy and Strategy” on January 21 at 9:20 a.m. GE has been active in the Middle East since the 1930s, and today has regional and project management offices, as well as local repair and service facilities, to serve its customers in the region.
