Abu Dhabi International Book Fair announces record take up of stands for 2009

Abu Dhabi International Book Fair (ADIBF) has announced that stands for the 2009 Fair have been sold out earlier than in any previous years. Visitors are in for a Fair which promises to be the most ambitious and successful Fair to date. Further details of the 2009 ADIBF Programme have also been released; and highlights are set to include: Antiquarian Book Fair. The 2009 ADIBF will introduce the Arab World’s first Antiquarian Book Fair, as this staple of the Frankfurt Book Fair launches in Abu Dhabi. This section of the Fair will bring together a range of leading and internationally renowned antiquarians, showcasing a collection of rare and valuable antique books, manuscripts and artefacts in multiple languages. This exciting new addition to the Fair will be an annual event from 2009 onwards. KITAB is committed to developing learning and literacy in the UAE, and the Educational Conference is a major new addition to 2009’s ADIBF Professional Programme. The Conference will bring together Arab and International educational publishers, and will allow delegates to present products, establish new business links, and network with the sector’s decision makers. The Conference also promotes a greater understanding of the educational system in the UAE amongst publishers and stakeholders, and is a chance to identify new areas of cooperation and development in the educational field. Education is high on KITAB’s agenda, and the market for educational publishing is one of the fastest growing segments of the publishing industry. Conference delegates will include representatives from educational publishers within the UAE, the MENA region, Germany, France and several English-speaking countries. In October 2008 ADIBF and KITAB announced details of Spotlight on Rights’, a new initiative offering a potential $1,000 subsidy for rights deals negotiated or concluded at the ADIBF. The three-year programme consolidates ADIBF’s role as the hub for the Arab and International publishing communities, encouraging the negotiation of licenses to and from the Arabic language. Jumaa al-Qubaisi, Director of the Abu Dhabi International Book Fair commented: "We are thrilled to announce record stand bookings this year, and this highlights again the increasing professionalization and international reach of the Fair in recent years - we hope to see in 2009 our busiest and most profitable Fair yet! The Educational Conference will be a key part of our Professional Programme, and we look forward to welcoming the international educational publishing community to Abu Dhabi this year. We are committed also to developing the scope and breadth of the Programme through events such as the Antiquarian Book Fair - another first for the UAE - which places ADIBF at the cutting edge of the Arab world’s publishing sector."
