Roby Lakatos Returns To Abu Dhabi

Roby Lakatos, the world’s top gypsy violinist, first performed with his ensemble in the Abu Dhabi Classics Opening Gala in October 2008. Last night, he dazzled his audience once again at the Emirates Palace Auditorium. Lakatos, a classical virtuoso, a jazz improviser, a gifted composer and arranger, performed with his regular team on violin, guitar, double bass, piano and the spicy clatter of the cimbalom and the hammered dulcimer. His musical prowess borders on genius. Lakatos follows in the footsteps of masters such as Liszt and Brahms in combining classical music with pulsating, vibrant Hungarian Gypsy overtones. The audience simply couldn’t get enough and their applause was loud and prolonged, as befitted this man of towering musical stature. New York’s Carnegie Hall, London’s famous Ronnie Scott’s Club, the ‘Genius of the Violin’ festival with the acclaimed London Symphony Orchestra and now The Emirates Palace, have all witnessed the magic that is Lakatos. Abu Dhabi Classics continues in March with a series of world-class concerts, including: the ‘Symphonic Masterworks – Zubin Mehta and The Vienna Philharmonic’ on 13 March 2009 in Al Ain; ‘Symphonic Masterworks – Zubin Mehta, The Vienna Philharmonic and Lang Lang’ on 14 March 2009 in Abu Dhabi; ‘Lang Lang – Piano Recital’ on 17 March 2009 and ‘Symphonic Masterworks – Spanish Russian Night’ on 19 March 2009 in Abu Dhabi. Tickets are available at Virgin Megastores and can be purchased online at www.timeouttickets.com, or by calling the toll free number 800–4669.
