Under the patronage of His Excellency Sheikh Sultan bin Tahnoon Al Nahyan, Chairman of Abu Dhabi Authority for Culture and Heritage, Al Ain Classics continued yesterday, Saturday, 7 March 2009 in the Al Ain Municipality Theatre. The evening saw the brilliant recital by Dubai-born pianist, Arsha Kaviani, followed by opera highlights, supported by the Warsaw Philharmonic Chamber Orchestra.
Kaviani dazzled the audience as he preformed pieces by Chopin, Medtner, Hess, in addition to one of his own compositions. Currently he is a student at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester, UK, and has toured extensively throughout Europe.
The Gala concert commenced with Opera highlights dominated by Mozart’s Don Giovanni, and Cosi fan Tutte, both of which have been translated by the ‘Opera in Arabic’ project, and were sung in Arabic. Compositions by Gounod, Donizetti, and Bizet were some of the remaining operas sung.
Al Ain Classics will continue until March 20, 2009 and will offer further highlights including a chamber music concert on 11 March, followed by a concert by singer Amal Maher and the Selim Sahab Orchestra on 12 March and ending with Shakespeare’s play Richard III in Arabic on 20 March.
