Abu Dhabi Sustainability Group Charter Adopted In Its 3rd Quarterly Meeting











The Abu Dhabi Sustainability Group (ADSG) held its 3rd quarterly meeting, during which the Group’s charter was discussed in the frame of the ADSG Declaration that was signed by the group’s members to adopt sustainability, introduce sustainability management practices within their own organizations and prepare annual sustainability reports. The Abu Dhabi Sustainability Group was launched in 2008 by the Environment Agency-Abu Dhabi (EAD). It is the first of its kind in the Arab world. It is made up of 15 of Abu Dhabi’s leading government, private and non-profit organizations. They are Dolphin Energy, ALDAR Properties, Emirates Foundation, Sorouh Real Estate, ADNOC, Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority, Abu Dhabi Water and Electricity Authority, Health Authority-Abu Dhabi, Higher Corporation for Specialized Industrial Zones, Department of Municipal Affairs, National Bank of Abu Dhabi, Abu Dhabi Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Department of Planning and Economy and Department of Transport. During the meeting, the Group agreed on its mission, goals, roles, members, structure, deliverables and key processes. The Group also adopted an action plan, developed by the General Secretariat of the group, to encourage sustainability management by its members. Within the context of this action plan, EAD will provide several training courses and technical support in Sustainability Management to the members. The members also discussed convening of the Abu Dhabi Annual Sustainability Forum, which will bring together leaders of the group members and international expertise and distinguished leaders in the management of sustainability from all around the world. The Forum will also witness the announcement of new members, highlight the achievements of the group and explores the latest concepts and international standards for sustainability management and reporting, and outreach in the area of sustainability. Specific activities will be designed to raise awareness of the group members, where the group will also have a web page and its own logo. ADSG members experiences in Developing a Business Case for Sustainability and a corresponding Sustainability Strategy; and Progress on Sustainability Reporting were also highlighted during the meeting.
