Guinness World Records Aims To Inspire Excellence At Abu Dhabi International Book Fair 2009

Emirati Record Holder to Display World’s Largest Bead Mosaic

Guinness World Records, the worldwide encyclopedia of stupendous feats by ordinary people, officially represented in the Middle East and North Africa by AlWaseet International, today announced it will participate in the Abu Dhabi International Book Fair 2009 from 17-22 March, with the aim of inspiring Emirati children and adults alike to push their own boundaries in pursuit of excellence. Reem Al Gurg, an Emirati record-holder listed in the 2009 Arabic-language edition for the World’s Largest Bead Mosaic, will be on hand at the fair with her 3.75 square metre bead mosaic called ‘Dates’ that took four months to complete with 18, 231 wooden beads. The 19th Abu Dhabi International Book Fair is organised by Kitab and is a joint venture between the Abu Dhabi Authority for Culture and Heritage and the Frankfurt International Book Fair. Myriam Hoballah, Regional Product Manager of Guinness World Records MENA, said: “We launched the Arabic edition with the objective to showcase the talent and ingenuity of people in the Middle East, and spreading the spirit of achievement and excellence throughout the region. Reem Al Gurg epitomizes this spirit as she not only holds two Master’s degrees in Healthcare Management and Human Nutrition, she has also worked for four months on her mosaic, pursuing her artistic dream and refusing to compromise until she achieved her vision. Her presence at the fair will inspire people in the UAE to expand their horizon of activities in the quest for excellence regardless of their field.” Hoballah also commended the organizers for the ADIBF conference theme of bringing classrooms into the 21st century by thinking out of the box. She said: “Guinness World Records is an excellent learning tool, capturing the imagination of children while drawing them to learn about distant places, people and cultures. The best part of the book is the unique nature of stories that are amazing but true!” The third Arabic edition of the Guinness World Records was launched in November 2008. A series of fun and exciting record-breaking attempts were held during the 13th annual edition of Global Village, the region’s premier destination for culture, cuisine and commerce that concluded on 21 February. A total of 54 records were set at the Guinness World Records Pavilion in Global Village.
