AED 150, 000 Raised For Charity
The first Abu Dhabi Yacht Show (ADYS) gala dinner proved to be an memorable event when five of the world’s most luxurious vessels performed a unique superyacht ‘ballet’ at the marina of the luxurious Emirates Palace hotel.
The evening, attended by more than 600 high profile invited guests as well as the exhibitors and personalities from the international yachting community,. opened with a breath-taking laser show and fireworks.
The SuperYacht ballet then took centre stage with a stunning opening, which included water cannot salute from a precision-positioned fireboat. The ballet stars - Azimut 116, WallyPower 118, Benetti, Ambrosia III, and the Aviva then cruised into the harbor in front of Emirates Palace, circled beautifully like an elegant ‘corps de ballet’ before exiting in true finale style.
All proceeds from the gala -over 150,000 dirhams- went to the Special Care Centre and the Emirates Marine Environmental Group (EMEG).
The Special Care Centre is an accredited organisation registered since 1989 with the UAE’s Ministry of Social Affairs as an establishment for disabled care and rehabilitation. EMEG is a non-profit body, established in 1996 under the leadership of Ali Saqar Sultan Al Suweidi, which specialises in dealing with various environmental issues including protecting endangered wildlife, promoting environmental education and conserving fragile ecosystems.
Franck Dailles, Group Director of ADYS, said: “Both these charities are well-deserving ADYS beneficiaries. The yachting community has strong links with environmental and social advancement groups so the two UAE charities chosen demonstrated the industry’s close affiliation with the causes they represent.”
He added: “The achievements and enjoyment of the evening would not have been possible without the support of a large number of people including the kind donors and crucially, the guests. I would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who attended the dinner and who supported us throughout the whole event.”
ADYS, the region’s first show dedicated exclusively to super and mega yachts – ranging from 30m to 100m in length, took place at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC) from March 12-14, 2009. With over 90 exhibitors and 21 super and mega yachts, the elitist event attracted a high net worth audience which included members of UAE and Qatari ruling families and over 10, 000 visitors.
The show’s headline sponsor is Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority (ADTA) with ALDAR Properties and Horus Watches as associate sponsors. Vistajet is the ADYS official private jet sponsor and Rolls Royce its supporting partner.
