The Abu Dhabi National Campaign for Social Cohesion concluded by honoring Her Highness Sheikha Latifa bint Zayed for her continued support











Wednesday night saw the conclusion of the Abu Dhabi National Campaign for Social Cohesion 2009 that was held under the patronage of Her Highness Sheikha Latifa bint Zayed Al Nahyan, honourary president of the Al Tawasel Center for Training and Consultancy. The campaign concludes after ten days of lectures and workshops, cultural and entertainment competitions under the slogan of Building a Family…Building a Nation. The ceremony honoured HH Sheikh Latifa for her effort in supporting the campaign and accepting the award on her behalf was Dr. Fatima Al Rashidi, director of the Al Tawasel Center for family training and consultancy. Vice President of the center, Ahmed Rashidi, welcomed Sheikh Saeed bin Tahnoon Al Nahyan to the closing ceremony, saying: “The Abu Dhabi National Campaign for Social Cohesion 2009 brought us together today. However, the embodiment of the slogan we hope will be a step forward in the light of interdependence and giving from the government of this nation. As the sponsorship of Abu Dhabi Police, Abu Dhabi Municipality,Abu Dhabi Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Abu Dhabi Water and Electricity Authority and other institutions, increased our pride for the campaign’s organizing committee.” Al Rashidi added: “We emphasize that this event is not the end of the day but the beginning of our eagerness to serve the family and society by spreading awareness through lectures in various colleges and providing students with the proper concepts of culture, marriage and family through this campaign for at least the five years to come.” As the speeches ended, the entertainment segment of the night began. Performing for the honourees were poetess Siraj Al Leil, Poetess Ameena Al Thani, Al Maqabeel Group led by Khamees Saeed Al Muqbali and Mohammed Essam, leader of the El Diar Group who sang frequently in the campaign’s events. The campaign saw several cultural seminars held over the ten days in Abu Dhabi and Al Ain discussing the challenges facing Arab families and the appropriate solutions as well as the legal impact of marital disputes. The events welcomed several family relations advisers including Mohammed Naji, Suhaila Al Kandari, Sherief Shukran, Sheikh Taleb Al Shehi, Dr. Ali Sharab, Dr. Mahmoud Mohammed Al Mahdi and Dr. Ali Al Baloushi. Among the many events was a march for students and those with special needs, a Music and Poetry Festival held at the National Theatre and a mass wedding, the largest of its kind in Abu Dhabi which included couples with special needs. The end of the honouring ceremony saw Ahmed Al Rashidi hand out the awards for all the government organizations and various companies who participated in supporting the campaign and it’s goals. Pyramedia, a supporting sponsor of the campaign was also honoured for their support through their coverage of all events of the campaign. Fatima Al Rashidi, Chairman of the Al Tawasel Center for Training and Consultancy and head of the committee for the Abu Dhabi National Campaign for Social Cohesion, commended HH Sheikha Latifa’s support, pointing out that she is sending a clear message to all that equality is part of the acquired rights and obligations of all citizens. Al Rashidi emphasized the goals of the campaign in terms of building a cohesive family life for all citizens and help them in any way to form stable families and increase community awareness in granting equal opportunities for all. The Abu Dhabi National Campaign for Social Cohesion 2009 aimed to build a community that cherishes the value of maintaining family stability, reduce the incidence of divorce and family disintegration, educate newly married couples to meet the challenges affecting marital stability and give couples the skills to solve marital conflicts. One of the main aims of the campaign is to guide couples through the dissemination of programs to increase awareness of, cultural, social and family for all groups of society. The campaign was sponsored by many governmental and private organizations including Abu Dhabi Police, Abu Dhabi Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Abu Dhabi Water and Electricity Authority, Abu Dhabi Municipality, Abu Dhabi Authority for Culture and Heritage, Pyramedia, Al Jawda Association and many other supporting and media sponsors.
