EAD To Showcase Abu Dhabi School Students Work In Khalidiya Mall

In an effort to promote an appreciation for the environment and to showcase the hard work of Abu Dhabi’s students, the Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi (EAD) is displaying the artwork, articles and research papers submitted by the students during EAD’s Environmental Competition for the academic year 2008/2009. The exhibition, which is being hosted by Khalidiya Mall in Abu Dhabi, will be open to the public from April 30 – May 4, 2009. The Competition was sponsored by Shell Abu Dhabi and organized in coordination with the UAE Ministry of Education and the Abu Dhabi Emirate education zones. It was open to all Abu Dhabi school students, from Kindergarten level to Secondary school level and was held under the theme CO2 Kick the Habit. The competition focused on Climate Change and highlighted the message to students that making positive lifestyle changes can help reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Students aged under 7 years old submitted artwork under the theme Trees: The Lungs of the Earth. Students aged 7-9 submitted artwork under the theme Our Earth Has a Fever. Students aged 10-12 wrote short stories under the theme Act Now! Save Energy, Save the Earth. Students aged 13-15 created posters under the theme Kick the CO2 Habit at Home. Each year the competition revolves around the theme announced by the United Nations on World Environment Day (June 5). It helps raise student awareness on major environmental issues. Over the years, the Environment Competition has grown with popularity with only 47 schools participating in 2000/2001, to over 163 schools participating in 2007/2008.
