Etisalat Migrates 70% Of Network To Enable Carrier Pre-Select

Etisalat announced that the migration of its network to enable Carrier Pre-Select (CPS) is 70% completed and that the remaining 30% allows this service using special dialling codes or devices.

The legacy equipment installed in parts of the Etisalat network cannot support the CPS service and as a result these components need to be replaced. This replacement requires a large and unjustified budget especially with the availability of other alternatives such as the special free dialling code and device. The transition process represents a great loss for Etisalat taking in account the existing investment Etisalat is already making in a more advanced fibre-optic network.

Etisalat is in the process of deploying a nation-wide fibre optic network and has completed most of the project. The country will be fully covered with these services in the near future. This is one of Etisalat’s initiatives which are helping to build a modern and technologically advanced infrastructure across the UAE.

The upgrades requested by the TRA represent an additional cost for the company at a time where all organizations are working carefully to restrict its operational spending to avoid the indirect effects of the global economic crisis on revenues.

Etisalat has always been committed to creating a competitive environment in the telecommunication sector within the UAE benefiting from its international experience through working in 17 markets and with different regulators in the Middle East, Asia and Africa.

Etisalat participates in developing the TRA ICT fund by paying 1% of its revenues, and has contributed AED 680 million for this fund till end of 2008. Etisalat also contributes 50% of its profits to the success of the government, which is now exceeding Dh 50 billion. The company also pays 60% of its dividends directly to the federal government.

Etisalat participates effectively in different social development projects in the UAE such as the Marriage Fund, Zayed Housing Scheme, special needs initiatives, Emirates Foundation projects and Dubai Cares. The company also sponsors many sports economical and cultural events across the UAE.
