Abu Dhabi’s Hidden Treasure To Open On Schedule

Anantara Qasr Al Sarab Resort & Spa will be UAE’s first five-star destination in the Empty Quarter

Tourism Development & Investment Company (TDIC), a master developer of major tourism destinations in Abu Dhabi, showcased today the luxurious Anantara Qasr Al Sarab Resort & Spa at the Arabian Travel Market in Dubai.

Located at the heart of the Liwa Desert, Qasr Al Sarab is a luxurious leisure resort situated among the highest sand dunes in the world. Inspired by the indigenous desert culture, which is an integral part of the UAE’s unique heritage, the resort will be managed by the Anantara group, the luxury Thai hospitality brand. With over 85 per cent of the development complete and a number of mock-up villas available for viewing, the resort, will open to visitors by the fourth quarter of 2009.

Anantara Qasr Al Sarab Resort & Spa will be the ultimate experiential getaway with a luxury health spa, conference centre, outdoor pool, children’s playground and adventure excursions. From the moment of arrival, guests will be surrounded with architecture and design rooted in the region’s distinctive heritage. The guestroom interiors are inspired by the simple grandeur of an old desert fortress with hidden sheltered spaces. The hand-crafted furnishings, carpets and embroidered fabrics evoke a mood of sumptuous romance and luxurious indulgences.

“We want to ensure that guests will enjoy the combined experience of Arabian mystique and culture provided by the location while experiencing the most superior quality and service expected from a top tier resort,” said Lee Tabler, Chief Executive Officer of TDIC. “In each room at Qasr Al Sarab, rich textures and intricate details complement the contemporary Middle Eastern feel. This is enhanced by natural light and views through floor-to-ceiling and wood-framed door windows which define an authentic Arabian style.”

Adding to the authentic experience, Anantara Spa at Qasr Al Sarab will offer a true oasis of privacy and serenity with a truly extraordinary spa offering. Tucked into geometric recesses off tranquil courtyards with trickling fountains and aromatic hanging gardens, Anantara Spa will truly boast an exceptional experience in the most inspiring of natural settings.

Many activities will be offered to adventurous visitors including falconry, camel riding, sand-boarding and excursions into the breathtaking Empty Quarter desert (Rub Al-Khali) - the largest uninterrupted body of sand in the world.

“The villas at Qasr Al Sarab feel like small private palaces with spacious living and dining areas, private pools and outdoor terraces. After staying just a night in one of our many deluxe suites, we promise that our guests will want to extend their stay. The combination of luxe detail and palpable culture of the area help make Anantara Qasar Al Sarab the utmost Arabian fantasy experience,” stated Didier Tourneboeuf, Area General Manager, Anantara Resort & Spa Qasr Al Sarab.

Qasr Al Sarab will be accessible by road and air. A private 500-metre air strip and runway is being developed to fly visitors to this fascinating destination, which lies just 90 minutes from Abu Dhabi International Airport and is seven kilometres from the main Hamim Highway crossing the Rub Al-Khali. To date, over seven kilometres of new roads surrounding the project have already been completed, while a new eight-kilometre access road is being planned.
