Emax Hands Over AED 50,000 Charity Contribution To SCCI’s Tawasol Program

Proceeds to fund the education of deserving orphans in Sharjah

Sharjah, UAE, November 17, 2008: The Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) recently received an amount of AED 50,000 of a charitable contribution from a popular electronics retail store chain Emax to Tawasol, a Sharjah-based integrated program, organized by the SCCI, dedicated to enabling deserving orphans to continue and complete their education.

Present during the handover event held at the SCCI offices were Hussein Al Mahmoudi, Director General, SCCI, Emax Sharjah General Manager, Shankar Iyer, and Nada Al Hajri, the program coordinator. The proceeds were collected via a special Ramadan Charity Auction launched during the holy month of Ramadan. The daily bids for electronics products were open to all customers willing to help fund the schooling of deserving orphans registered with the Sharjah Social Empowerment Foundation.

“The 2008 Ramadan Charity Auction was an excellent opportunity for us to give back something to the community of Sharjah. We were pleasantly surprised by the strong support given to this program, which extends the charitable tradition of our parent company, the Landmark Group. We look forward to similar partnerships with SCCI that contribute immensely to social development and provide opportunities to our underprivileged and yet deserving citizens,” said Shankar Iyer, General Manager, Emax Electronics LLC.

The Emax Sharjah outlet offers more than 100,000 products and 300 brands and plays a key role in Emax’s plan to acquire a larger share of the Middle Eastern retail electronics market. Emax intends to introduce 40 more stores covering a total retail area of 2.2 million sq. ft. by 2010. Emax also has mid-term plans to establish operations in India and China.

Tawasol was established in association with the SCCI, the University of Sharjah and Sharjah Social Empowerment Foundation. Tawasol supports financially underprivileged orphan students in realizing their ambition and raising their morale, thus enabling them to make a positive difference to society.

“Sharjah’s achievements would be meaningless if we disregard the potential role of the underprivileged members of our society. That is why the Chamber ensures that we carefully balance our development goals with our social initiatives. We hope that more local businesses will follow the example of Emax and offer their support for noble social causes championed by organizations such as Tawasol” said Al Mahmoudi.
