SCCI Urges Law Firms And Legal Consultancies To Support Sharjah’s Sustainable Development Efforts

The Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) hosted representatives from Sharjah’s law firms and legal consultancies today (May 11, 2009) during a special business breakfast held at the Chamber’s new facility. The event was attended by SCCI Director General Hussein Mohammed Al Mahmoudi and Assistant Director General for Membership and Attestation Affairs Khalid Bin Buti Bin Obaid.

The meeting complements SCCI’s commitment to promote enhanced communications with its partners from various sectors and to encourage their participation in the Chamber’s sustainable development initiatives. The event mainly focused on assessing the state of law firms and legal consultancies in Sharjah in the wake of the global crisis and explored ways to boost this sector and enhance its contribution towards promoting sustainable development and economic growth in the emirate.

During the meeting, discussions revolved around the long-term objectives of law firms, the ways in which they can contribute to sustainable development, and on how this sector can leverage the support provided by the Sharjah Government for development of infrastructure and human resources to create new investment opportunities and enhance the business community in accordance with the highest standards of quality and excellence. The challenges faced by Sharjah’s law firms and legal consultancies during the current economic situation were also reviewed.

Hussein Mohammed Al Mahmoudi said: “Law firms and legal consultancies play a vital role in supporting the development process at various levels, especially given that the number of legal consultancies in Sharjah has risen to 58. This meeting complements our continuous efforts to support this sector and develop human resources in this domain based on the highest standards of quality and excellence. In this regard, we hope to strengthen our strategic relations with various sectors to create an economic environment that is able to consistently attract more local and foreign investments while enhancing the business community in Sharjah and the UAE in general. We are keen to organise more of such meetings and launch new projects and initiatives to achieve sustainability throughout Sharjah and support its high economic potential.”

“We are eager to implement the recommendations from these meetings and identify the best follow up mechanism in order to achieve positive results, while overcoming challenges that impede Sharjah’s economic growth and making use of existing opportunities. We hope that our initiatives will boost the contribution of major sectors towards the sustainable development of the emirate,” said Khalid Bin Buti.

The SCCI is committed to further strengthening its strategic partnerships with various sectors and to launch new initiatives and projects based on high standards of quality. The Chamber aims to pursue its expansion plans and strategies which will lead to enhancing its services and adoption of best practices in line with Sharjah’s strategy of creating a balanced and sustainable future.
