SCCI Holds Initial Talks With New Executive Committee Of Sharjah Businesswomen Council


Emiri decree appoints new officers of Council to a term of three years










The Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) has recently organised under the sponsorship of Ahmed Mohammed Al Midfa, Chairman of SCCI, its first meeting with the new executive committee of Sharjah Businesswomen Council, which is headed by Ameera Abdel Rahim Bin Karam. The meeting was also attended by the previous executive council headed by Fatima Ahmed Al Mughanni, who congratulated the new committee and wished them success in achieving the goals of the Council.

In his speech during the meeting, Al Midfa thanked H.H. Dr. Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qassimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, for his support of SCCI and the organisations operating under its umbrella. Al Midfa also congratulated the new committee for having been chosen by His Highness, and he wished them success in carrying out their assignments. He also emphasised that the Chamber will continue to provide the necessary support for the Council to effectively carry out its duties and responsibilities.

Al Midfa said, “The Emiri decree and the administrative decision of His Highness are in line with the current economic conditions experienced around the globe. The new committee will focus on developing mechanisms and plans that will enable businesswomen to overcome the difficult period, and it will also identify strategies to facilitate the growth of businesses run by women and encourage them to participate in several other economic activities. I would also like to sincerely thank the previous executive committee for their efforts in addressing the needs of businesswomen for the past two years; I wish them success in their respective domains, and I hope that they will be able to put in good use their experiences at the Council.”

After the meeting, the executive committee of the Sharjah Businesswomen Council held its first meeting chaired by Ameera Abdel Rahim Bin Karam, who expressed her happiness and gratitude to H.H. Dr. Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qassimi, who issued the administrative decision No. 6 of 2009 to form the new executive committee for the Council. The members of the Council include Sheikha Maisa Faisal Al Qassimi, Sheikha Amal Mana Al Maktoum, Nafisa Ahmed Al Mullah, Amna Humaid Al Sharaa, Rasha Ibrahim Seif, Sama Saeed Seif Al Tunaiji, Samira Mohamed Ahmed Al Nahhal, Mariam Humaid Al Mazroa, Moza Mohammed Ali Al Khaiyal, Nawal Abdul Razaq and Dr. Alya Abdul Rahman Bukhatir. Furthermore, Article No. 2 of the decree determined the term of the committee for three years, subject to renewal.

Ameera Abdel Rahim Bin Karam said, “The Emiri decree gave us a great responsibility to work hard to realise the goals of the Council and achieve success in other related initiatives. On behalf of the executive committee members, I would like to extend my thanks and recognition to His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah for his great confidence in our capabilities, as we reiterate our commitment to promote the best interest of women in general and businesswomen in particular. I would also like to thank H.H. Sheikha Jawaher Bint Mohammed Al Qassimi, wife of the Ruler of Sharjah, Chairperson of the Supreme Council for Family Affairs and the Honorary President of Sharjah Businesswomen Council, for her support of women and the Businesswomen Council."

Bin Karam added, “Part of the vision of His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah is to motivate women in the emirate. In line of this, the establishment of the Sharjah Businesswomen Council serves as a platform for businesswomen in the emirate to reach new horizons. Furthermore, the directives of H.H. Sheikha Jawaher Bint Mohammed contribute significantly to the advancement of women in all social, political and economic levels. Women certainly have a very important role in the society, and have immense potential to contribute significantly to the economic development process and social stability of the country.”

During the first meeting of the new executive committee, Dr. Alya Abdul Rahman Bukhatir was elected unanimously as First Deputy Chairman of the committee, while Sama Saeed Seif Al Tunaiji was elected as the Second Deputy Chairman. Rasha Ibrahim Seif gathered the highest number votes to secure the post of Secretary General. The new committee also approved its monthly regular meetings schedule, and identified its first assignments by developing the strategy and plan of the Council for the next three years, the length of the committee’s mandated term. The committee concluded its meeting by announcing its recommendations; including developing the strategy and plan and the assignment of a special committee to identify the vision, mission and objectives of the Council, and setting this plan into implementation.
