First Japanese Fruit Gifts Shop In The Region Opens Its Doors

Oishii Nippon (A taste of Japan), a store organized by the Government of Japan that sells premium Japanese fruits, has officially opened its doors today on the first floor of Fotouh Al Khair Mall in Abu Dhabi, under the management of FIT Fresh L.L.C. The grand opening was conducted by Japan’s Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries (MAFF) as part of a major initiative to promote premium Japanese food products in the region. The business project is administrated by Kintetsu World Express Sales (KWE) under MAFF’s proxy and supported by Zen-Noh, National Federation of Agricultural Co-operative Associations. The ceremony, which included a fruit tasting session for all attendees, was hosted by the Ambassador of Japan.

Oishii Nippon, meaning a taste of Japan in English, is the first of its kind store in Abu Dhabi, not only for selling premium Japanese fruits that have a host of healing properties, but also for the way they are sold, in a traditional Japanese finely crafted gift basket known as Furoshiki. “With the opening of Oishii Nippon in the capital, people now have a new and healthy option that would make for an extremely interesting gift, if not for personal consumption”, said Dennis Selva, the General Manager of Fit Fresh L.L.C.

H.E. Tatsuo Watanabe, the Japanese ambassador, expects great things from the new store, stating that “Japanese agriculture has long history and tradition through which highly sophisticated cultivation technique has been developed. Especially, in the area of fruit cultivation, such technique is combined with ceaseless and tireless efforts on the part of farmers to the effect of producing extremely delicious products. ”. He added that “I hope that people in the UAE may sense a flavour of Japanese culture through tasting them.” In ancient Japan, fresh fruits were given as gifts by nobility in specially designed Furoshikis, which were originally used to wrap treasure and hence the practice of giving fruits in Furoshikis rose among the noble class to symbolize their importance and respect for the recipient.

Mr. Junichi Takeuchi, Director for the Export Promotion Office of MAFF, was just as enthusiastic, claiming that “Japanese fruits are grown and cared for very well from seed selection to growth and harvest. With Oishii Nippon, we deliver the highest standard in the quality of fruits.”

Japanese fruits are known for having the highest sugar content among fruits worldwide making them extremely delicious and juicy. Furthermore their exceptional quality is maintained through the careful supervision and monitoring of every stage of cultivation.
