Abu Dhabi issues new magazine ’Intangible Heritage’

The Intangible Heritage Department at the Abu Dhabi Authority for Culture and Heritage (ADACH) has published the first issue of a new magazine entitled "Intangible Heritage" on the Internet.

"Today we begin a new phase of our strategy to support UAE heritage, while contributing to cultural dialogue among civilizations and celebrating world diversity," said Mohammed Khalaf Al Mazrouei, Director General of ADACH.

The first issue was published as Abu Dhabi was readying to host the fourth meeting of the Intergovernmental Committee of Intangible Heritage of the UNESCO, held on 28th of September - 2nd of October, 2009.

Mazrouei said the new publication will support ADACH’s projects on architecture, archaeology, arts, music, literature, and cinema.

The new magazine aims to promote future progress while unearthing the glorious past.

"It revives focus on our great past and how we lost it to enable us to rise once more to the challenges of the future," said Nasser Al Hemairi, Director of Intangible Heritage Department at ADACH.

Al Hemairi called on specialists, scholars and experts interested in UAE, Arab or Islamic heritage to contribute to the magazine.

The new issue comes in 173 pages of news and features on intangible heritage, including an interview with Director General of the UNESCO Koichiro Matsuura, a report on biographies of Sheikh Zayed the First, an article on Qasr Al Hosn fort, an analysis of heritage in the education curriculum, and a feature on the customs and traditions of Ramadan and Eid in 41 Muslim countries.

The magazine also includes articles on reviving heritage, traditional and popular arts, African heritage, herbal medicine, oral folklore, and old photographs.
