Big Names Support MEBS & METV Events In Capital As Broadcast Sector Readies For Growth; Nexus Global Events Out To Change The Face Of B2B Events

• Associated Press, Turner Broadcasting and more confirm support as sector looks set for double-digit growth• Market needs B2B events that drive industry growth, not exhibitions that tout space, says McGill

Leading names in the global broadcast sector that have pledged support for the new-to-market exhibition duo, Middle East Broadcast Solutions (MEBS) and Middle East Television (METV), organised in association with twofour54, Abu Dhabi’s content creation community.

Associated Press and Turner Broadcasting Inc. are among the international names set to join the events in the capital next month. The Abu Dhabi Film Commission has also pledged its support.

Dominic McGill, CEO of Nexus Global Events, indicated that the Middle East broadcast market is set to expand at double-digit annual rates over the next five years, outstripping the worldwide average, pegged at 6.6 percent.

“Abu Dhabi will lead the MENA regions growth of the broadcast solutions and content sector from 2012,” he predicted.

Reza Nikfar CEO of UAE-based United Broadcast and Media Solutions (UBMS) also confirmed his support of the two events and agreed that the UAE has a great opportunity to play in the broadcast sector.

“The UAE is gathering the momentum in its role as a global broadcast production hub. This is fast on the heels of a decade of heady growth in the corporate audio and visual broadcast sectors, particularly for post-production demands,” said Nikfar. UBMS is considered to be a forerunner in end-to-end solutions for the broadcast, entertainment, corporate and production-& post-production industry in the region.

McGill stressed that MEBS and METV are set to change the face of exhibitions as they showcase the potential of the Middle East broadcast and content sectors.

“We are fast-gaining support for the two events and promise a treble-hit with two exhibitions and a conference that is poised to take the industry’s conversation to new levels.”

He stated that the B2B exhibition sector has ‘outgrown itself’ and said that Nexus is looking to provide a ‘new model’.

“We refuse to be in the business of selling exhibition space. We are crafting a new model that will see Nexus’ events play a strategic role in the sectors it supports and indeed in the region’s economic growth. Our events will provide a platform for an industry to drive the industry’s development.

“We believe that Abu Dhabi’s MICE strategy provides an open environment in which to do this, and the strong industry support that we are gathering for these two inaugural events stands in testament to the appeal of this model.”

MEBS and METV, organised in association with twofour54, will run over three days (from November 17 2009), and look set to attract in excess of 120 leading names from the global broadcast and TV content sectors, as well as players from the UAE. The events are tipped to draw more than 5,000 industry visitors into the capital.

Nexus recently announced that it has earmarked more than 40,000 square foot of exhibition space in Abu Dhabi across four events up to May 2010. In 2010, alongside MEBS and METV, Nexus Global Events will also launch Sports Arabia and Franchise Arabia at ADNEC.
