Sharjah Commerce And Tourism Development Authority To Participate In EIBTM, Barcelona

Al Noman: participation aims to develop conference and exhibition tourism in Sharjah

The Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority (SCTDA) has announced its participation in the upcoming EIBTM 2009 exhibition, the leading global event for the meetings and incentive industry, to held in Barcelona from 1 to 3 December 2009. This will be SCTDA’s second consecutive participation in the exhibition.

EIBTM delivers three days of focused access to a dynamic business environment, thought-provoking professional education, and business networks for exhibitors, hosted buyers and trade visitors. Through this participation, SCTDA aims to develop conference and exhibition tourism in the emirate of Sharjah and to shift focus onto the emirate as a premier global tourism destination.

SCTDA Director General, H.E. Mohamed A. Al Noman, stressed the importance of the EIBTM exhibition 2009, saying, “Exhibitions such as EIBTM are very important to the SCTDA, as they look at ways to develop the conference tourism sector and also the challenges facing this sector. In addition, this exhibition offers companies excellent business opportunities, presents a great bridge for communications, helps develop skills in the field of conference planning, raises the bar for conference planning, offers a perfect setting for commerce activities, and stimulates professional thinking. As such, participating in events such as this helps us enter international markets to promote the conference tourism sector in the emirate of Sharjah”.

“Sharjah has become a favoured tourism destination for tourists around the world, and through this participation in EIBTM 2009 we aim to support this status. So far, we have been successful in diversifying our tourism agenda, whether through international exhibitions and conferences, family and educational tourism, or conference tourism, and we have put the necessary plans in place to develop this particular tourism sector in Sharjah. Conference tourists spend around 30% more than the average tourist, demonstrating the importance of the business industry as an influential source of income, and this is one of the reasons that we are focusing on developgin and promoting this particular sector in Sharjah,” Al Noman added.

“Sharjah’s participation in last year’s EIBTM was highly successful, as we were able to promote the emirate’s conference tourism sector, and we are looking forward to another successful participation at this year’s exhibition,” he concluded.

In addition to SCTDA, the Sharjah delegation to EIBTM includes representatives of Sharjah’s Radisson Blu Resort & Hotel, Golden Tulip Hotel and Air Arabia.
