Kitab Sets Pace For Professionalism In World Book Capital 2009

Continuing in their efforts to promote and professionalise the region’s emerging publishing industry, KITAB, the organisers of the Abu Dhabi International Book Fair (ADIBF), will this week travel to Beirut, the World Book Capital 2009, to attend the Beirut Book Fair where they will showcase the new projects at the ADIBF 2010.

Amongst other projects representatives from KITAB will talk about the IPA Copyright Symposium 2010 and the Rights Showcase for Arabic Literature. During the evening reception, bringing together publishing industry professionals, the work being undertaken to improve the distribution system and new innovations such as the E Zone will also be discussed. KITAB will also be shedding light on its new initiatives towards reading promotion as well as the Education Chapter.

Jumaa Al Qubaisi, Director of the National Library and Abu Dhabi International Book Fair, said: "A strong and confident publishing industry is essential if we are to achieve the vision of a knowledge-based economy for Abu Dhabi and the wider Middle East region. As World Book Capital 2009, Beirut provides an excellent platform upon which to discuss the route to take us there." "KITAB recognises that the growth and expansion of a healthy regional publishing industry is dependent on fresh initiatives and incentives. This week in Beirut we will be showcasing the work KITAB is doing to boost the book business from our subsidised licensing deals, to the new E Zone and bringing literary agents to the Fair for the first time," explained Monika Krauss, KITAB General Manager.

"With Beirut as the World Book Capital 2009, the eyes of the global industry are on this region. We hope to enable discussion of the most pressing challenges facing future development and facilitate the evolution of the relationship between the regional and international industry. Encouraging these networking opportunities is to the benefit of the industry and ultimately for the benefit of the consumer market too," added Ms Krauss.

KITAB and ADIBF 2010 will be at the Beirut Book Fair from 11 - 24th December. The KITAB Reception will take place on Saturday, 12 December at 9pm at the Safir Heliopolitan Hotel. The Abu Dhabi International Book Fair 2010 will run from 2 - 7 March and will be immediately preceded by the IPA Copyright Symposium from 28 February - 1 March.
