Entries Open For Anasy Documentary Awards











Anasy Documentary Awards sponsored by HE Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research has launched the Second session of Anasy Documentary Awards April, 2010, which includes three main topics i.e., Free topic competition "Talk Doc.", "Child in our eyes" Competition and Script competition.

This was announced by Ms. Dhekra Ouali, Anasy Documentary Awards Director at a press conference here at Le M ridien Abu Dhabi. Ms. Sigrid Kaag, UNICEF Regional Director for the Middle East and North Africa and Tony Oreston Twofour54 Chief Executive Officer were also present.

Ms. Dhekra pointed out that Free topic competition "Talk Doc." includes all documentary films that have social, cultural, historical, scientific and sporting subjects, it may be a documentary, docudrama, TV documentary or cinematic documentary." While "Child in our eyes" Competition is specialized in documentary films that deal with all topics related to the child as a human being and a vital part of every society and Script competition is also related to the free topic. Script ideas and projects for documentary films that have free topics will be presented, where the winning ideas will be adopted and their production will be supervised by Anasy Documentary Awards.

"We are honored to launch this session at the same time we concluded a partnership with United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), based on our interest in the child as a creative character that has various concerns, attitudes, visions and viewpoints which are different at the same time from the adults. Aiming at closing a gap in the production of documentary films for children, we are pleased to conclude this partnership with one of the most important organizations, UNICEF, which strives to make the children of today live in peace. Through this partnership, we say to the Organization that we work together with you, hand in hand for the sake of the children." She said.

She said that anyone interested in Anasy Documentary Awards, can fill in a form on the website of Anasy Documentary Awards, adding that submissions will start from today until 10th of February 2010.

Referring to the conditions of the competition she said that film should take into consideration the topics of the competition and abide by the technical and professional standards, the duration of the film should be 28 minutes or more, it should have a written translation or dubbing in both Arabic and English, the form attached to the site should be filled in and signed by the participant.

She further said that film material should be sent on DVD along with a synopsis, poster, pictures or shots of the film in addition to a promo no later than the 30th of January, 2010, the copy, which is ready for screening, should be sent on beta cam, HD or cinematic film 35mm by 28th of February 2010 for the films that are technically approved and finally all affirmative papers and intellectual property rights documents should be authenticated from all the concerned authorities in the country of residence.

Moreover, she confirmed that the value of awards is one million and fifty thousand Dirhams and a sum of 500,000 Dirhams will be given to the winner of the first award. Half of this sum will be given in cash and the other half will be in the form of production support in cooperation with twofour 54. She said that Abu Dhabi Media Zone-twofour 54 will contribute further to the success of the first award winner. Furthermore, some workshops on the frame of making one minute documentaries will be held at the premises of twofour 54 Academy.

Ms. Dhekra highlighted that there are also Silver Award, Bronze Award and the Best film for the category of "Child in our eyes" in addition to other awards i.e. Best Child Documentary produced by youth, Best Script, Best Photography, Best Director, Best Editing, Best Research, Best Character and Best Idea / Message.
